Christmas tree and X-can V2 PSU for only £9.99 at Kwik-Save

No I haven't gone totally mad (yet)

Yes.. you read correctly.. a superb fibre optic christmas tree and a 12V / 20VA transformer for the X-can V2 for £9.99.

Was this divine intervention or just pot luck? your comments appreciated!

By the way, on the strength of what I am hearing with this PSU connected to the X-Cans it's back to Kwik-Save tomorrow for a couple more trees!

Seriously, any X-Can owners in the UK want to get down to Kwik Save immediately cause as it says on the tree "when it's gone it's gone" If nothing else, it's an absolutely super looking tree at night.

Hmmm... That is amazing! I've been watching your PSU project with interest because I want to try my hand at PSU building this summer, and I'm floored that this could produce better or even equal sound to your design.

The only thing that I can figure is that you either A) got a PSU that, for some unknown reason, is massively over built for its intended use or B) it is somehow more compatible the internal regulation of the X-Cans. (Is this possible?)

Anyway, I've got a truly massive AC adapter/PSU that came off of an old portable TV... If the size comparison thing holds true, maybe it will produce good sound!

LOL PinkFloyd... are you sure it's even regulated? Does it run warm / hot after a while (this is a good sign to look for IMO)

Hi Blip,

Sorry, but you seem to have got the wrong end of the stick here! (I must admit I didn't explain it very well though) I was trying to say the Christmas tree wart made the X-can perform better than the standard Musical fidelity wart, maybe because of the increased current rating.

The home made PSU sounds better than the two wallwarts though. I am still surprised that Musical Fidelity supplied that 500 mA adaptor though.. why didn't they supply something a bit beefier?

The X-can obviously performs better with a higher power supply... I think everybody agrees on that score?

Hi Joe Bloggs,

I'm not sure if it's regulated and, no, it doesn't run hot at all. Slightly warm but nowhere near as hot as the MF wallwart.

I don't know if you are aware of the fact that the regulation of the voltage takes place "inside" the X-Can and not inside the Musical Fidelity wallwart (it would have to be a bl**dy large wallwart) . If you have a look at my website you will see a few pictures of the innards of the X-can and will see that it has 2 circuit boards. The top circuit board is quite clearly marked "PSU" which, unless I am grossly misinformed, regulates the incoming 12 Volts ?

If this is "not" to regulate the Voltage then please tell me what you think it does??

Still love my X-PSU though, even just for it;s cool looks no days as I hardly ever use it!
