Shorter Senn HD600 Cable

Has anyone here tried shortening the standard Sennheiser cable? I would like mine to be 5 feet long but am unwilling to spend big bucks on an aftermarket "upgrade cable".

I have always had difficulty telling the difference between cables so upgrades are meaningless to me.

Hi oldguy,

Shortening the cord would only require cutting from the 1/8" end to the desire lenght and soldering on another 1/8" plug.

I figured that part but what does one do with the soldering iron? I have no experience with soldering wires especially such small ones.
I guess I need a step by step guide from some kind soul who has more experience
