From the pictures from timelord, it seems that there is some sort of metal accent on the prolines. How will the addition of that metal (esp the PL 650, 750, and 2500) affect the resonant qualities of the respective headphones? I would imagine that the metal there would have different sonic qualities than the plastic (or whatever is currently there) that is currently placed there.

[I'm just starting to venture into the world of high-end audio having acquired a PL 650 this past week. I'm slowly trying to figure out the differences in audio quality between my PL 650 and the Sennheiser 280 Pro that I've been borrowing. Thinking of acquiring a HeadRoom Total Bithead to amp the PL 650 real soon now.]

BTW, I would like to add that I am looking forward to when those cases for the redesigned PROlines are available. They certainly will provide more protection than the bag that is currently included. :-)

If you're referring to the silver trim disc on the back of the can, it's probably the same material as the current disc, just finished differently. It's mass, relative to the mass of the plastic can it's glued to make it sonically irrelevant.

I have been using PL 750's to listen on the bed for a while with Headroom Micro Amp '06 since I had one free from other duties. Even though I liked the headphones I was not completely satisfied with them, some music was good and some sounded like not too good subwoofer was too loud.

I have never heard Edition 9, and I know the construction and sound signature is different from 750, but I was still wondering how some people can think Edition 9 is the best dynamic headphone in production.

I decided to upgrade the amp to new Ultra Micro version since the size is perfect -- anything bigger would be very inconvenient. I received it last week and very quickly it was apparent that now 750's sound very, very good indeed. What I didn't used to like is gone, the sound is very dynamic and the low end is completely tamed and tight. The sound is completely different from my HD-650's, but I can't say anymore which is better (well, maybe HD-650's but not much.)

Now I am left wondering what Edition 9 would do...

I don't know about you but they do more for me than any other headphone that I have owned. Mated with my new Yamamoto HA-02 is about a perfect match for my preferences.

Hi Slwiser, I noticed that you played around with m-audio and hag-USB. Have you thought about freeway 2 from empirical audio? It sounds sooo goood.

As long as I am using the Lavry DA10 I don't need the freeway 2. But I agree that it has a great design to make things work better if you don't use a nice out board DAC.

Well,

Over the break (crash) I bought some Proline 2500 and got them the Friday after Thanksgiving. My brother-in-law was bummed because he wanted to hear them too, but he left on Thursday (with my Beyer DT231, Send Station Pocketdock and PenguinAmp Royal). I missed the Monday 12 noon shipping cutoff at headphone.com for by 10-15 minutes, so Wednesday didn't happen.

I like them, even before Burn-in, so I expect great things over time. The iCans I didn't like at first (or at 150-250 hours), but with 350 hours they are great. My HFI700DVD were already burned-in for me...

Ive noticed that the new HFI models are listed on at least one web site (German). Does anyone know if they are available already? I'm thinking about getting myself a nice christmas present

That info is here somewhere but I forgot where exactly. It was posted by the sponsor of Ultrasone here but I forgot his name as well...Maybe you'll find it through the search-function..it was quite recent I believe...

Arrrggggh...I just can't figure out these PL2500s!!! I have almost 200 hours on them and sometimes they sound fantastic. Other times...even on the same songs...they sound like crap with harsh highs, honky mids, and a blurring of the upper midrange with the lower treble. The only thing that is consistent is the deep and powerful bass. I'm currently running them with a Constantine NOS DAC and am awaiting a new Ori Modded Zhaolu. I'm hoping the extra resolution from the OMZ will clear up the blurring of the upper frequencies and make me like these. I have them up for sale right now, but am considering hanging on to them to see if they settle down. I think they have the potential to be a great rock/metal can but the inconsistency is driving me nuts! Is this normal for these cans?

Make sure your ears are exactly in the middle of both cups, my Proline750 is so sensitive to the position and I think you Proline2500 will react the same way too.

I also remember that during the pre-100 Hr burn-in period, my 750 went from super warm to ultra cold in just few hrs, I think that's normal for Ultrasone, and after 350+, my 750 didn't change much.

Keep you 2500 for a while until it has 400+ hrs, if you don't like it by then, you can always sell it at about the same price

hey, there are 2-3 pair on FS forum, not a good thing to sell IMO

I withdrew my FS post. I'm going to hang on to them and give them some more pink noise burn-in. I listened to some older Iron Maiden with them today and they sounded fantastic.

My iCans were inconsistent and didn't sound the same or sound right, until I passed 350 hours. Now I love them and hate to pass them on to my Nephew this Xmas, but such is life.

I suspect you do need 400 h0urs on them, so just run the ipod 24hr/day for 10 more days...

I got it wrong and found it for you..It was Dex who came up with that info some weeks ago. I'll post it again for you here:

"
I'll try to think of some questions and post them on your thread...

In the meantime, I had a nice chat the other day with Michael over at Ultrasone HQ who was kind enough to answer a few questions I had about the new range.

First off, the new facelift PROs have just arrived, with the revamped HFIs set to follow shortly. This means that both entire ranges should be available for sale in Europe and Asia by mid-November!

Michael also confirmed that both ranges will be introduced in North America shortly after the first of next year, since Ultrasone USA is on a slightly different marketing schedule."

Hope this will help you spend your money
