SoFlo Mini Meet 11/3 Impressions - Page 5

I am holding out on the mods before the meet, although I have lined them up with Larry for shortly afterwards. I thought that I was doing the group a favor by holding out for the comparison, but it actually takes 5 weeks after payment for Larry to get to the mods!

I'm glad to hear that the BlackGold cans got the praise over the BlackSilver because I am going with the BG. I guess Johnny #s will have to have fun with the AD2000s while his second-class mods get done right!

And Vicki, how did you get that pair for free?

*edit* I forgot to mention that you need to get rid of that Zu thing because it sucks with SS amps, and is not in line with the sound you say you like. I will have my Equinox and Wayne will probably have his too. Comparing those and the G52 will be instructive. I will also bring my Blue Dragon v2 which I like much more than I would have expected. Really nice sound.

Nice, I am sure you will be happy. The BlackSilver is a good match with the bass heavy version I think, but both of my pairs have been the bass light version and it is really not a good match in that case. I really think that the K340's like copper cable a lot more... or a little of both as is the case with Larry's BlackGold cable.

PS. Listening to Talking Heads - Remain in Light on the new amp right now.

You bought a pair? I told you, man! I love the AD2000.

If I were new to Head-Fi, and looking for an all arounder that is always engaging but never annoying (i.e., nothing jumps out at you as being "off"), this would be my one and only pair of headphones. Spend your $500 and be done with it. Unless you need a pair of IEMs... or a pair of electrostats... or...

So glad to hear that you got the amp. I know it has been gnawing away at you and then you had the whole thing with the email, etc. Nice to be able to just sit back -- at 2am??? -- and listen now. Congrats and enjoy! I have to find one of your threads on it to see if there are pics of the almost complete thundercougarwatchamacalit.

Of course, this just reminds me that I am waiting for mine, and, yes, Wayne, I know you have been waiting longer... Maybe pricejapan and Mikhail are trying to f- with your brain!

Yes, I believe JP#s got one. He asked me about it after I posted something about liking it at our recent meet and then bought one. He moved fast 'cause that was only last week or so. Nice cans. I like them much more than the SA5K for my office setup. I agree with your thoughts on them being a nice all-rounder that does lots of things well without ever offending.

It did seem like a long ride... but I think it was worth it.

Yeah... it's 2am here, I'm completely exhausted and am really not feeling my best. But it really doesn't matter one bit.

yes and you will not beleive the amount of tight bass with impact these produce, they pproduce sound so well that at times you think a voice or sound from a recording is coming from the room so you flip the cans off for a minute to check. Each part of the frequecy range is represented evenly and without romance. The only downer is they are soooo differnet from the 340s that it takes a song or so for your head to adjust. The AD2000s for me are like taking a big blanket off the music, I don't know how else to portray it. The drivers are super sensative and I may need to throw a resistor in the mix as I can't get the volume above 1 on any amp and the volume is at ear splitting levels. If these were easily available I think they would be extremely popular.

Wayne and Al you could not have been more right when listening to these you forget about the headphone and focus on the music it just gets out of the way so nicely. Wayne a pair kinda jumped up at me at a great price, just got them Friday and I am trying to avoid first date bliss with these but it's overwhelming the quality of sound with no real flaws.

Wow, a lot of AD2000 love. The question is whether I can wait 3 weeks to try them. I have too much on my radar at the moment. On another subject, now that I have the si2A3 set to 8 ohms for my speakers I just started to use Gene's HP-2's with it (the 8 ohm setting is the recommended setting for low imp cans). I need to use these more while I have them.

What do you have the s2A3 set at? I'm listening to the HP-2's at just over 10:00 with the si2A3.

IMO, the headphile modded K340 are far superior to the unmodded, and so much so that I can't imagine anyone not getting it done. Voltron is bringing an unmodded pair to the upcoming 12/2 FL meet. There will be many good ears to compare there. BTW, I'm sure Larry has done mods for European customers many times before. You could email him and ask. He's very responsive, even to my frequently inane questions.

Yes.
I will say that overall the 340s are a better headphone than the 650s

I owned a stock 340 and own a semi modded 340 and the difffernece was not subtle. I am amazed that AKG would hamstring such great drivers with a steel cablle poorly implemented

Larry has about a 5 week worklist at the moment. His work iis top notch and he seems to have a thing for the 340 so his work and R&D on mods is the best around.

Much love for the AD2000

The 2a3 is set at 8 ohms for the Omega Superhemps at the moment I am not using them as a headphone amp due to the royal pain in the ass off disconnecting the speaker cables to plug in the HPs. I just put the 2a3 on a mapleshade platform with large brass cones so plugging and unpluggging headphones could be catastrophic particulary when beer and bourbon is in the mix.

Larry does great work. When are you sending yours in?

By the way, the HP-2's out of the si2A3, no hum, black background.

I just came close to ordering a pair from pricejapan and then ebay. I resisted as my wife wants to buy me a watch for our anniversary so I have to save up.

Wayne could you bring a few of the better members of your 650 cable collection?

You must be confusing me with Voltron. My profile couldn't get any lower. That was funny, by the way.
