For those who doesn't know and identify Spain with sun, Galicia has an atlantic climate similar to Ireland, Wales or french Bretagne, but a little warmer, especially in summer. Santiago de Compostela, for example, is one of the rainiest cities in Europe (2208 l/m2 in 2001, well above irish cities, for example). Rain is normal weather here, but not so much in a few days

Snacks, my Darth Beyers are 770/80 made of bloodwood and blackmax recabled. They are the "classic" model of Darth Beyers, not the last "v2" one. I think Vorlon answered your questions about iTunes. Try the last version. I was not a fan of iTunes, but I like it very much now.

marianitu, how about the "chuletón" I see in one of your pictures. It was as good as it looks?

Here we go...

After a very busy weekend (mini-meet on saturday, Fernado Alonso´s race and Real Madrid-Barcelona on sunday ) and a lot of work yesterday, finally I found some time to write my impressions.

First of all, I would like to congratulate carlosgp on making this meet possible. We all learned a lot, with his useful explanations.

Yago was a great host, nice to meet you.

Marianitu as we say in Spain, "in two words": im-presionante He came from Badalona on a rainy, rainy day just to be with us. I saw the pics in your homepage, you didn´t waste your free time!

Picodeloro came from La Coruña, not far from Santiago. He brought his Little Dot II+ recently purchased, a cmoy made by himself and a pair of good DIY cables and, of course, the Shure E-500 that liked too much to carlosgp. He will be our technical reference from now on.

JLtower is a great music fan (he plays clarinet) and the greatest friend.

Finally, I enjoyed a lot with all you guys! The meet was a great success, although i wish we had more time to listen to music.

Just downloaded the latest version of iTunes; very impressive! Although, not all of my music shows artwork... By the way, Larry is now up to V3 on DB's. I smell upgrade

There is an "automatically download album artwork" button now, so try that when nothing else is happening. It goes through and tries to assign artwork for everything although I haven't checked how successful it is. I also have used Clutter to get artwork into iTunes.

The "chuleton" (big meat loaf in one of my pics) was better than what you can see on the pic. It was an autentic and real "Chuletón de 1Kg de ternera gallega en plato caliente".

Mosts of the customers over the restaurant were watching me jelously...

Better I don't talk about the price

The days are passing and I am not having any free time, so I will make an effort right now and try to write something.

In first place I want to thank again all the attendees for coming to the meeting in spite of the bad weather and distance (marianitu). It really was a nice meet and a good opportunity to try some equipment I was interested like the shure e500. It is true that we did not listen a lot, but the hours we passed talking were equally rewarding.

Shure e500: these were not a surprise because everybody in headfi is doing rave reviews about these IEMs, but hearing is believing . The e500 are the first IEMs I listen that could be my only headphones if I would have to live without any full sized ones. They have a full sound with well founded lows, great extension and what is equally important, impact. Mids are a strong point of these IEMs too, sweet and refined. Vocal music is a joy to listen. I was able to focus in several songs of Camille's "Le Fil" fascinated about the capabilities of these little marvels. Maybe the highs are not as "extreme" as in other IEMs, but I don't find them less "detailed". I think I found a certain similitude between e500 and sennheiser HD650: both have a warm and lush sound that distract from their highs (by the way, I don't find HD-650s "veiled"). Of course they have different sound (e500, being IEMs, doesn't have any soundstage, for example), but in my opinion they share some traits that define their profile. I'm not a big fan of IEMs, but if I had to buy ones, they would be shure e500s.

"Ricola" cmoy:
picodeloro constructed a nice cmoy with good sound. I compared it with marianitu's one made by evilfire, and it was clearly better. Strong mids. Not bad at all with my Darth Beyers and pretty good with e500. Some day he will have to make one for me...

AKG K701 and K601: These ones were not expected. Mr. Portela surprised us in the middle of the meeting bringing out one pair of each . They were new, clearly needed burn-in and showed a somewhat rough and incoherent sound, maybe even harsh highs. But I liked their general profile. I am a long-time fan of K501 and I am not going to say that the new ones are a clear improvement . I think K501 is a classic design with a clear value of its own. But certainly these two new AKG could satisfy to everybody who is looking for something with fuller, more bassy sound, especially in the case of K701. I will try to listen to these two again in the future.

HD-650 defoamed, Stefan AudioArt Equinox cable: I'm not going to comment a lot about this one because they were my own pair . With the MPX3+Aqvox DAC were clearly the kings of the party, at least in my opinion. Better than K701s, but this is not a fair comparation because they had 0 hours of use.

Little Dot II+: This amp has some modifications made for picodeloro. He could detail what they are. I only passed a few minutes with it and my grado HF-1 listening some acoustic music. The result was nice, sweeter and more "tubey" than MPX3. Much more slower too. I think Jltower liked a lot this combination. He was the most impressed by the grado sound in the meet (there is always one ).

Great impressions Carlos! I agree with you on the similarites between the sound signature of the E500 and HD650. Similar warmth and depth while still being detailed.

Make sure you try the K601 and K701 again because they are both very nice sounding cans. The K701 is my preference, but all the talk of break-in time is true as to both of these fine headphones.

I also have to say that your HD650 (foamless)/Equinox/MPX3 combination confirms that you have fine taste and a discriminating ear [because I have the same setup and it is my favorite so far ].

Cheers!

hi guys,

just a short post to tell you how much I really enjoyed Santiago meeting experience. Nice people sharing their knowledge (impressive knowledge!!) and equipment(impressive equipment!!).
Thank you Yago for your kind help.
As a newcomer in the headphones universe I was stunned by the products I saw and heard .
Special discoveries to me were GRADO headphones (I apologize for my ignorance, and from now on I swear I'll support the campaign from this forum to persuade John Grado to make another HF-1 limited edition ).
Also , to be honest, the concept itself of making an amplifier to use it just with the earphones. I simply didn´t know there were something like it.
My impressions? I listen mostly classical music. I'm not an earphone aficionado. As Jorgillo said, playing the clarinet is my true love. I'm used to its sound. And .... when I heard my Ipod+HF-1+Little dot II, I really felt I was listening a clarinet .
Definetely I'm ordering the L.D. to test with my modest Sennheiser HD477 while GRADO releases the HF-1's.

Greetings from Santiago de Compostela.

Voltron, it shows you are a person of cultivated tastes too . I am evaluating which headphone will be next in my purchase list and I think I reduced it to K701 or Beyers 990. Maybe a RS-1 though I am not a great fan of grado. Or maybe e500s, or...

jltower, do not wait for a new HF-1. It is not going to happen. No way. Sorry to dissapoint you, my friend... And think that grado in Spain is outrageously expensive. Buy second hand (you could find a HF-1, but they sell aprox. for $350) or Alessandro (they are made by grado and are very similar).

Bienvenidos jltower! Mis condolencias por su cartera.

No, I don't speak much Spanish, but I was able to locate the traditional Head-Fi greeting for a first-time poster in your native language. I hope you have many more revelatory headphone experiences now that we have our claws in your wallet!

Hi!

Glad to see I'm not the only one thinking Grado are great for classical music

About Grado. If you ever come to Barcelona, there's a local shop (Nivell 10) with some Grado's in stock at nice prices.

Greets!
