I wasn't talking about the material, just the lack of damping, but I'll delete my post so we can keep this thread just about nice pictures.

For as popular as the ATH-M50 seems to be around here, I'm surprised nobody has posted pictures of their drivers in this thread yet.  Anybody care to oblige?

The driver doesn't look interesting, looks like typical Audio-Technica driver. If you want a close comparison, try MDR-V6 drivers or AD700.

Why should a driver need damping exactly? Isn't an ideal driver something that wouldn't need it? I'd say they've developed something more special because of the fact that there isn't damping. Essentially the driver itself is already doing all the work additional damping would have done.
