An Ebay seller a couple of weeks ago claimed that the Diyeden SVDAC04 was essentially the same as the Musiland MD-10 without the LCD. Any thoughts?

I'm not sure it is the same - the MD10 has cs4398 and the svdac04 has PCM1716 and PCM2704.

iFi Audio has heard word from China that the SVDAC04 is modeled after the Musiland MD-10 but is said to be a cheaper variation of some degree and of lesser quality.

And less than half the price. You know you are paying a premium for that LED display and because it is the *new* model.

In the Musiland Chinese site, there is the SVDAC05 with CS4398
. It is more closer to MD10 than anything else. It is for Chinese domestic market though.

The specs aren't particularly close - I realise that you can't tell much from specs but the O4 has a SNR of 98 versus 120 for the 05 and MD-10.

I dunno about the MD10, but it seems you can do opamp rolling in the 05 and get rid of the ne5534s if you fancy.....

From what I've read the CS4398 is better than the PCM options (except for perhaps PCM1792 by specs at least).

Chances are the MD-10 uses the same as the svdac05 with a usb PCM2704 --> CS4398 --> NE5534s or whatever but without dip sockets.
EDIT: just peeked at coem audio pics and the MD10 has one OP275 opamp a bit like the default xin supermacro.

I wish svdac05 was international

I can only see one opamp in the MD10 tho.

Oh, I see, you have one. I personally have no idea about the SVDAC04 myself and don't know if it's any better or worse than the Musiland or anything else for that matter I'm just passing along what Wei told me one time. Again I'm no expert but obviously there are differences in the design and layout based on pics I've seen of both.

not sure how i would compare the two. but i love my z110. a great deal. it was a 1250 player a few years ago (5 to 6) and i got it for half price, because the new models were coming out. but the new models just looked a little cooler. not better insides. never buy full price. full price is for suckers. i just need a dac for my computer so i can use my little dot micro tube. i also have an aria. that has a built in dac. very convenient. i looked at the md10 but when i saw that it was out of stock i started to investigate other options. i came across the dac i have now. it seems just as good and was much cheaper. i don't know for sure how it stacks up but it definitely suits my purposes.

How does the Diyeden compare to your Corda Aria? I realize that may be hard to evaluate since the Corda is an amp/dac combo but could you tell us what you think?

MD10 and SVDAC05 are definitely different as I heard from Musiland. the circuit design from MD10 is more advanced, although the same chipset is used for both models.

as I read from the most popular chinese headphone forum, a full featured reviw for SCDAC05 written by a moderator, he even compared SCDAC05 with DAC1!

Bit depth?

Just got my MD10 today. Really enjoying the sound. Just using the built in amp with some 32ohm '05 DT-990's - the two go great together. I'll post some more impressions after some more critical listening.

Thanks to friendly Head-fi folks for helping me get this shipped direct from China to Ireland.

Quick question: In the menu I can set the 'Bit depth' to 16, 20 or 24 bits. I can't tell a difference between these settings. Any suggestions on what should be best? Is there any point being at 24bits when the original CD's were at 16bit? Will 24bit reduce quality? (Of course it doesn't really matter if I can't tell a difference... but I'd just like some more technical info.)

To keep it 'bit perfect' you should set it to 16bits. I'm not quite sure of the reason, but people here seem to think it's important.
