You could try ebay. There's usually someone selling the senn 414 pads.

Oh man I get so excited. A parcel should ship this week. Containing SR60 and SR80. Oh man, man oh man. I actually fear I prefer them to my Senn Hd650.

i got my grados in a few days ago. and boy do they sound good. for the past 2 days, ive been listening to music for hours...ive given up sleep to listen to music. these are hands down the best headphones ive ever bought. the most ive ever spent was 50 bucks on headphones, so they werent very good. but these are soooooo good.

I've been listening to my sr80s since the day I got them, about a little over a week ago as I reported on this thread. At least a few hours a day, my girlfriend is starting to complain.

the detail is amazing, but I find that occasionally I need a little warmth, as that was what I was used to with the PX100s that were my primary hps before this.

The clarity of the highs and mids take me aback with some music, even the rock music that these grados are supposed to be ideal for. high hats and cymbals are occasionally a bit too piercing for my tastes, as well as the noiser guitar distortions and feedback.

I love these cans, but is there something I can do about this? I'm mainly using my laptop for listening right now, should I just constantly adjust the eq or would a specific amp be of help? I don't want to color the recordings too much. Just a slight softening.

Hard to get equipment in my country, and while I'd love to get a tube headphone amp, the availability and price would be prohibitive.

Still no regrets. These are absolutely the best listening experience I've ever had, but would ms-1's have solved this problem? I'm not about to give these back though. Just wondering.

The MS-1s are even brighter than the SR-80s and have less bass.

I listen to my SR-80s out of the iBasso T2 portable amp at work. This amp adds a little warmth to the sound...no too much, but enough smooth over things. It also has a bass boost feature that will add even more low end to the sound.

Another option might be to add a DAC to your laptop. Next to my headphones, this provided the greatest increase in sound quality. The music out of mine sounds really smooth compared to the relative choppiness out of my sound card.

The Senns and the Grados definitely compliment each other. It's nice to have a choice of sound depending on your mood.

Are you planning your next Grado purchase? It's amazing that these are on the low end of the Grado spectrum.

Thanks Brook! So you'd recommend my getting a DAC over an amp first? That's intriguing. Haven't really considered that, sort of unknown territory for me. Rare in the philippines.

What DAC would you recommend? Getting excited, although cost is a major factor. to put things into perspective, my monthly rent is equal to about 300 USD. Money costs a lot more here, if that makes sense.

I think the Sr80s are wonderful phones. As for amp/dac recommendations, its hard to beat an all in one solution like the iBasso D1 or the upcoming D2. Very affordable and good performance with the ability to roll op amps and tailor the sound.

Fallen...I've thought about this more and think I may have a cheap solution for you. Before you spend money on an amp, try out the Basshead Tape Mod.

Just wrap some electrical or clear tape around the outside of the bowls. This will make them overall darker with more bass and tame the highs a little. It's worth a shot.

Little Dot MK lll , made in China ,..............Great little tube amp,and inexpensive for what it is! I heard one at a meet,and i loved it.
For the money,its probably a perfect match for the Grado SR80.

Although i have other headphones,including the Igrado and SR225......i still reach for my SR80 alot.

A PA2V2 portable amp is supposed to match Grados and warm them up a bit,and its cheap, like $60us or something like that.

Ok, so I tried the tape mod.

Not so much.

I was ok with my bass before, this seemed to muddy it up a bit. I don't know if it softened the highs, didn't feel like it though. Obviously made it sound more "closed". I love the open sound of these. Don't think I want to compromise that.

Thanks for the suggestion though, Brook! I would use this if I ever wanted some bass-thumping, but that wasn't my main priority. It was fun to try though. I'm researching your DAC suggestion now, as well as looking into the chinese tube amps like dragon recommended.

As a newb, I gotta say I love this forum. Super helpful and informed. You guys are great.

On another note, Tom Petty's "She's the One" soundtrack may be my favorite album to listen to with my sr80s so far.

It's naturally warm and beautifully layered, so much fun to listen to and let each sound surface. Perfect for these grados.

Any other recommendations as to what albums sound best on the sr80?

Pink Floyd comes to mind, DSOTM mofi edition or The Wall really stand out.

IMO DSOTM really benefits from a larger soundstage, I usually opt for the 580s for that album.

However, SR-80s are the way to go for The Wall.

My personal favorite is Lush---Ciao, but this album may sound a little bright on a poor source. I also like AC/DC Back in Black.
