Just picked up one of these an hour ago from Craig at the Bay Area meet. Thought you might like a few photos.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. There was a special meet price that I couldn't resist. Only listened for an hour, but initial impressions are it's quite the high impedance amp for its retail of $160. Wonderful soundstage with the Senns. More controlled than my previous OTL, the MG-Head. Not surprising with the design, beautiful midrange. If memory serves, cleaner than the EC-01, which it shares some design characteristics (but not tubes).

The Lunch Box is designed for high-impedence headphones. The representative from Laconic has said here on Head-Fi that low-impedence phones won't damage it, but I wouldn't bother... Impressions with Grados & low-impedence AKGs haven't been great.

Having said that, I love mine. It matches very well with my HD600's, with plenty of punch and a smooth yet detailed presentation. It strikes me as very balanced, and after listening for a couple of months, no real weaknesses have come up. I couldn't be happier.

Nice pics!

The Lunchbox seems to definitely be a bargain. I would think that anyone starting an entry-level system with hi-impedance cans should be looking at this baby.

Anyone doing a detailed review?

I am confused, which is nothing unusual but what kind of amp is it? I guess class A, which is normal nowadays, OTL?, and I see some type of box plate tube. Where is it made?

Thanks

At the LA meet in August, almost everybody was surprised how close it was to the Zana Deux with high impedance headphones. I heard Craig say he was surprised. I must admit that I didn't hear it because it was suggested that it wouldn't be able to drive my K340s very well and my main purpose at the meet was to find an appropriate amp for them.

So if you have appropriate phones, it sounds like you can get a close taste of the ZD for 1/10 the cost.

Well, maybe we should temper the expectations. The Zana Deux is some amp to match.

And jamato8 it's a joint Eddie Current (U.S.)/Laconic (Latvia) project assembled over there.
