HD600 Cable Upgrade from the UK

Have got a Cambridge Azure 640C V2, Headfive and HD600s. Am thinking about upgrading HD600 cable but have encountered two difficulties:

1. There seems to be no intermediate price upgrade between replacing HD600 with HD650 cable (circa £20) and looking at very expensive aftermarket cables (the Oehlbach is no longer available) . The cheapest next options I have found are Russ Andrews (at £100) which has received bad reviews in HeadFi and then a Cardas Cable from www.headphone.com at $185 which has received better reviews

2. Availability of aftermarket cables in the UK is poor and if you import you are in to shipping plus (various) Taxes. Not particularly good given the UK's strong reputation for HIFI!

So two questions:

1. Are there any intermediate options as the Oehlbach is no longer available: and

2. Any other UK Head FI members been able to source aftermarket upgrade cables for HD600s effectively?

Thanks

Have you checked headphile.com? Even with import taxes(not sure what there called) it should be cheaper than say a Cardas cable. Sorry, I don't have any experience with these cables myself.

You have the same problem I have! Weird really. Headphones are seriously underated in the UK though

There was an Oehlbach for sale here by a UK member last week, not sure if it's sold.

Best bet is usually sourcing a cable from the US, even allowing for the hit of customs & postage handling it works out cheaper than most UK sources.

Headphile, Moonaudio and a few head-fi members are good for personal service and accomodating to UK buyers. Zu Mobius, Cardas and other more main stream are good but a bit dearer.

I've dealt with Headphile, Moonaudio and Zu Mobius with no issues. Only problem is the wait for delivery is a little lnger and you sometimes have to pay import fees.

Almost the same setup as me!! I also use the Cambridge Azur V2 with Senn 600 and 650. I have a Headfive but use a Graham Slee Solo with PSU on that combo. I'm not as keen on the Headfive with that headphone.

However, the second hand market is the way to go imo with cables. I traded some headphones for my cable.

The difference isn't as massive as you maybe think. Cables need to be carefully thought about. I got more of a change by changing the interconnect to 'The Name' which is around £40. A lot cheaper than aftermarket cables for Sennheiser.

Perhaps contact Sennheiser in the UK (if they have offices, otherwise contact their importer) to enquire about the HD650 cable. I believe it is a good intermediate step up for the HD600s

madeyeward,
look at all the relevant threads here on Headfi as I did. I also have Senn HD600s' and I was going to sell them but decided that as I had bought s/hand in the UK for good money and as I had modded my WAD MK1 h/amp (ECL83s), I deserved to give them a chance. Also the previous owner had twisted the cables and one was broken, so, I decided to buy s/hand some Cardas cables - absolutely brilliant and they allowed me to see just how good a SET h/amp is. I paid approx. £75 shipping incl.

When you've looked at the threads I think you will find that the Cardas replacement cables work the best with Senn 600s'. Take your time and wait until these or another choice of yours comes up.

As they will be s/hand I doubt you will have to pay import duties but do make clear to the seller that they must state 's/hand on the customs ticket.

I now live in Spain but I don't think that makes any difference. Do also insist that the seller, if American, uses USPS (United States Postal Service) NOT DHL etc.

Got my Cardas from http://www.audiofreaks.co.uk/. It was delivered for free, ordered it on a Friday and it arrived on Saturday.

Cost me £130 over two years back. Could be worth giving them a call and see what the going rate is currently.

Just a heads up: this For Sale ad might be of interest (Silver Dragon 10' Sennheiser HD600/650 cable in UK. I am in no way affiliated with the seller, just came across the ad last night and remembered you were looking for something like that in the UK

Xenithon, thanks for the tip - I am looking for either a Cardas, Equinox or Black Dragon as I listen to more rock music currently.

Please pass any tips on again if you see them
