well last night i tried this combo and ya know what - me likey!
so i had my wife try it on (she who has been cringing as all this gear (with their attendant bills) keeps coming in. she thought it sounded really good and said, "so how much are these headphones, a thousand dollars?" i reassured her that i spent no where near that much on those cans (i'm not sure that she really wants to ask the right questions 'cause she may not like the answers ). she was dutifully impressed. it's hard to go wrong with a trial period available from the manufacturer. (this applies to other vendors to, btw.)

Grrrr. Why did you have to bring up yet another amp for me to consider?!
I think I may stick with the LDII+, but this amp is in the picture now.
Does anybody know how this compares to something like the LDII+?

Another suggestion

Have you given any thoughts to a preamp. I use this in my office. Dynaco Pat 4. There are three for sell now on ebay. You should be able to pick up for less than 50.00. It is great for driving AKG 701 output at 600 ohms is 5volts!!
Careful not to blow out a driver on the headphone!

Another suggestion is to buy used from our forum. Look for folks unloading the new Headfi- 5 amp from Miers. I am using this in my living room for driving all my phones.

If you want to go portable by all means save your money and buy a RSA-Hornet.

I know you have had a lot of suggestions. Enjoy your new phones!

That's why I'm thinking about an LDII+, because it doubles as a preamp, which I kind of want/need. I don't really need portability after I thought it over.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Just to tease a little, wrap your eyes & mind around these newly discovered Chinese products. And the prices! We have yet to to read owner reports of SQ and dependability.

Hope your head doesn't spin too much.

Beware - lots of hi-res photos -- slow pic/screen download.

Headfi thread - bunch of interesting/cheap Chinese audio products

Are you trying to help me or just make me go crazy?
I may have found someone willing to sell me their LDII+, so we'll see what happens next. Right now I'm willing/planning to buy it used from him.
