Yes, if it is Chinese it is usually labeled 6P14 but could be relabeled EL84 for the foreign market. If it is Russian it is usually labeled 6P14P but could be relabeled EL84 for the foreign market.

The exact same tube either way.

The Chinese tubes are Shuguangs.

Yarland owners have a fine amp at a low cost, I am sure.

You guys just don't realize how much better it could sound with the right combo.

Using all four Chinese tubes may seem to be good to you but it is not - it is too bright and harsh.

You can't realize this until you change to better tubes, but some people wouldn't be able to tell even after that.

I will send two new Russian 6P14P EB (military type is EB) to Fairbanks with an option to buy for $20 or return within 2 weeks at no charge.

I think the Yarland will sound better with the Russian tubes, but changing the 6N3 (5670) may also be required to get the best sound from the Russian tubes.

I plan to buy the Yarland in the future - I really like Chinese amps and Yarland has a good reputation for fine sound.

I think his egotistical mind set is troubling. After all he claims to know it all.I run into them from time to time.

These are all pretty different, as you point out. The H5 is also a nice warm sounding solid state amp. It has better bass than the Yarland, but the Yarland has that yummy tube midrange

I got it from Sound & Vision, www.tsto.com - if you sign up for their email flyer you get 10% off
Hey Skylab sorry to go ot, but could you post a link to the flyer? I want to buy this amp but at $65 ()for shipping to Hawai'i, that extra $30 breaks the deal for me as the amp would be over $400.

Sign up for the flyer and then call 215-886-1650 and ask for Dave. Even tho that was only a one week deal, he did give me the 10% discount on the P-100 that I just ordered.

Nice! They're pretty cool over there. This is the only product I have ever ordered from them, after getting their flyer for years! But I am glad I did...

Yeah Skylab, Dave was super nice on the phone and it seems that I`ll be getting the 12th Yarland HP amp sold by them. This is really my first venture into cans and I`m pretty excited. What is your impression of this amp now that you`ve gotten a few more hours on it?

btw...I`ve decided on k701`s but haven`t bought them yet. Front end will be an aa prima cdp. I think those components together might make some beautiful music. Hope so anyway.

I still find it a thoroughly enjoyable amp. I'm going to save a full review for when the Russian tubes come, but even as is, it's EASILY worth $320. It sounds much better than any portable amp I have ever heard at that price, for example.

I should have mine by the end of next week and I`ll be ordering Russian tubes as well. On Art`s advice, I almost bought the Doge but liked the looks of the P-100 much better and it matches my main system. Of course, looks don`t mean a thing if it doesn`t sound good. Glad you`re happy with yours, and in the future, I`ll be looking forward to your amp showdown.

Het Shylab,This just me but I think the stock tubes are just fine.Maybe you should listen to it as is for awhile and upgrade later. Also I've noticed it takes some time for the tubes to warm up and sound there best.Anyway,I'm looking forward to your review. It's hard for me to write a review because I have no other amp to compare it to.

You might be right that the stock tubes sound better, because the amp was likely designed based on the voicing of the Chinese tubes. However, in general NOS tubes are considered to sound better and IME this is the case. You will only know once you try the new tubes. I am following this thread with interest, because I am considering a Chinese amp that uses similar tubes and looks similar, but is a combo amp that can be used with speakers and headphones. It seems the export version of the amp uses el84 tubes (ie your amp) but the Chinese domestic version uses 6p1. THis is probably the confusion that arose from your research for 6p1 vs. el84.

Enjoy!

This amp sounds very tempting! I wonder how it compares soundwise to the cheaper Chinese tube amps. I'm kinda worried that it's a $200 amp with an extra $150 in cosmetics, or something like that.

Skylab, care to elaborate any more on the bass of the Yarland?

The bass is good but not great. Full, but of course a little lacking in definition (like many tube amps). Likely will still improve with more time...

I do know this, that someone traded in there MF x-can v3 for the Yarland but that's probably not saying much.Yes it looks nice and in my opinion sounds just as nice. This amp is a real bargain that doesn't come around everyday. That's why some people are sceptical.I've had it awhile so it's at it's peak and I'm astonished in how good it sounds.Could be my Rega Saturn as my source but don't know.
