Also you could do a search in this forum for "600 mods."
The HD580 (approx $125, check Amazon .com) and HD600 (approx $300) have the same driver element. I have gathered that one significant difference between them are the grills (plastic mesh on the 580s and metal mesh on the 600s). There may also be some difference in the cables, but the 650 cable fits the 580 and is generally considered an upgrade over the 580/600 cable.
Many seem to feel that the modded 580 (grills & cable) have superior sound quality to the stock HD600 (think HD580, $125 + $38, vs HD600 - $300).
I did the mod. I only did a brief A/B (I have 2 HD 580s) between the stock 580 and the modded 580. The cable change seemed to give me slightly better base response. Various descriptions of this cable mod have reported better highs and more open mids, but with possible detrimental effects on soundstage and imaging.
The grill upgrade made a greater difference in SQ to me. The sound opened up and became more "airy" with a somewhat larger "soundstage."
For my money it was well worth the upgrade cost of about $38 (including $5 shipping. Be sure to get the 1/4" to 1/8" cable adapter if you need an 1/8" jack for a MP3 player or portable amp. (The 580 & 600 terminate in an 1/8" jack, but the 650 cable terminates in a 1/4" jack.)
