Looking for new computer speakers

In need of puter speakers, $100 price point or less, so far I see Creative GigaWorks T20, Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 PC Speaker System, and of course Bose Media Mate. Thouhts, comments, suggestions???

Forgot to mention need 2.0 speakers, don't want or need a sub-woofer. Need to minimize my clutter.

I think that's what we should rename this whole dang website. Instead of www.head-fi.org, it should be www.KindaOverTheBudget.org. Anybody who has a question that involves a budget should cut their real number in half before they post. That way, when we all double their spending, it will end up where they want it. This happens every single time, doesn't it?

BTW, I used to use those Swans in my office, when I had an office, and they were nice. Good looking too.

I normally don't recommend Bose but I had good luck with the MediaMate speakers I used to own. They have a BIG sound for being such a small speaker. They can be had real cheap now that there is a new model out. My wife says that she saw them at Sam's Club for something like $35 the other day, but I haven't confirmed it myself. They retail for $99 everywhere else I have seen them.

Those Swan's are nice, however $$$$$, and the enclosure is too nice for the intended purpose.
Anybody with the Creative experience??

M audio studiophile DX-4 are a little beyond your budget ($130 from Amazon sellers), but they sound very good for what they are. I too needed a 2.0 solution and couldnt be happier (not that I use them all that much). I forget what the term is, but they are directional- so for optimal sound quality you have to have them positioned properly and directed right at you.

The Studio pro 3 are right in your budget and are reviewed pretty well, but I havent heard them. Klipsch is always a reliable bet.

The M-Audio's look interesting, need to see if I can find those and give a listen, read somwhere the Apple Store may carry them?? Still need to find the Klipsch ProMedia for a listen. If have heard the Creative's (in a store) and they would work, however still searching.

Just a thought

- a t-amp driving a pair of DIY fullrange drivers would keep you in budget if you can make the enclosures

- and sound light years better than any computer speakers you'd find at that price point

We'll I found what I was looking for. Found the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 2.0 as a last item on the shelf for $79.00. These puppies smoke
I had picked up a pair of Bose Media Mates 2 days ago, and while they sound fine, these Klipsch put the Bose in the minor leagues. Back to the Klipsch...as good as they sound (to my ears) they are unforgiving of compressed (128) recordings, but I guess that's a good thing, will have to deal with that.

This pair of speakers have 2 inputs and headphone out, bass and volume control. Took a quick listen to the head out and sounds clean, however will need to give a longer listen.

So I can end this chapter of this qwest, by returning the Bose back to where they came from.

I highly reccomend these computer speakers for this price point.
