Thread Starter
Hey first post here. i've been checking the board out for maybe a week or so now. I'm looking for a set of headphones and I want to make the best decision I can so I figured i'd check some forums out.

Why : I'm a type of guy that works much better in my ''zone''. I'm in college studying mechanical engeneering and I can't seem to concentrate during my CAD courses si I brough my ipod (which I usually use at home on my home audio stuff). I hate earbuds and I didn't feel very comfortable with the sound the stock ipod's earbuds, so here I am looking for some new cans.

What : Big cans, Good bass, well balanced, not too pricey (sub 100 $) something that blocks ambient sound, I don't care about looks. I was actually looking for some 30 $ cans but I figured i'd put a lil more and have a greater quality for a longer time.

I'm browsing some old topics and learning stuff.

One of my friend has Grado SR-60 and I love them. I'm looking for something in that same range.

Since i'm a total noob at this, I might ask some stupid questions.

Ohh and what you think about used headphones. There might be a set of sr80's for sale on the board I might like, but i'm just not sure about used headphones. Is there something to be awared of or just go ahead and get them ?

Thanks a lot

Welcome to head-fi, sorry 'bout your wallet!

You'll probably get more of a response to this in the headphones forum, not the members lounge, so it'd be worth posting this there, but for a starter reccomendation (and what you'll propbably be pointed at) you want to look at the akg k81dj.

Happy hunting...

Welcome!

If you like the SR60, then why don't you get them? The SR80 are good too. I listened out of a RA-1 (AC) and it sounded great!

I think the SR-60 or 80 would be a good choice. I got some Yams which I love, but I think I might have been better off with the 80's.

2nd hand DT770 pro's. They are big, bassy. If you can get a good deal somewhere (try a WTB topic in the headphone FS/FT board) you should be able to get them for probably a little bit more than $100, but I think they are worth it if you like the bassy big headphones.

IMO, buying headphone's second-hand is not a very big risk here on headfi, depending on the seller offcourse, a new member will not be trusted as much as an 500 + member.

Big and bassy...dt770. I have some for sale btw. 125 shipped currently. No takers.

However you'll need an amp to power these. These are the non/pro version. In the past, not sure about now anymore, there were Pro and Non Pro versions. The difference was only with the clamping force. The Non Pros have less clamping pressure. The rest is the same.

Actually I think there was an 80 ohm and a 225 ohm versions. My ohm ratings may be wrong but there are definitely differences in the two from all reviews I've seen posted.

Why would you bump a thread that old for a first post? That thread wanted to die!
