Yup, could be an interesting card (I already got offered a review sample, btw...) - hopefully the first one with DDL/DTSI-Support and good analogue signal quality (in that regard, the Turtle Beach Montego DDL, Terratec Aureon 7.1 PCI & AuzenTech X-Plosion unfortunately all are far from great...). However, at least for us more stereo oriented headphone folks, it might meet tough competition by AudioTrak's new Prodigy 7.1 HiFi, which is quite a bit cheaper...

P.S.: Did you notice their funny RCA/optical mini combo jacks? I think I've never seen those before...

Can anyone explain the advantages of this card over the Bluegears b-enspirer, which also uses the Oxygen 8788? Obviously we will have to wait for the card to actually be released for a true comparison.... but if someone can explain the differences in the cards, based on purely on specs, that'd be great.

I'm trying to decide if this card is worth the 90 dollar premium it currently carries over the Bluegears b-enspirer.

I'm just looking for a good card to pair with an home theater receiver (currently looking at the Onkyo 504) that I can use a TOSLINK connection for audio and dvds, and analog cables for true 7.1 audio in games.

If you're going to use an analogue multichannel connection as well, why do you want to use optical digital? The advantage of a potential-free connection is already lost then, so you could use electrical/coax spdif just as well. And if you use the analogue connection for multichannel gaming, DDL and DTS-I are superfluous for you, too...

P.S.: As for a spec-based comparision: Sorry, I couldn't find anything helpful on the Bluegears site - and the pic was too small to identify the components...

I'd like to use the TOSLINK for DVDs and music. The DVDs would pass the Dolby Digital or DTS straight through, where it would be decoded and sent to the speakers. I'd be using ASIO output through the TOSLINK so I would be using the DACs in the receiver.

Thats where the advantage over the analog outputs is for me; then again I'm not sure if the DACs in the b-enspirer or X-Meridian are superior to those in the Onkyo.

DDL and DTS-I would be superfluous to me.... though, I don't like the idea of recompressing my sound, and from what I understand, both do exactly that. DDL also cuts off all sounds above 17kHz (supposedly, unsure if that is true.) I would be more interested in these two if they encoded to a 7.1 stream, and were not limited to 5.1. Then, I wouldn't have to worry about getting a receiver with 8 channel analog input, and could get this Panasonic SA-XR55 (or SA-XR57) that I've been hearing so much about.

I haven't bought the receiver yet... when I do, I'll only be running the left and right front channel at first, and build it up as I go along. So, all this worry about handling extra channels is a moot point essentially right now, though I'm aiming to be future-proof. The thought of gaming with 7.1 surround has me drooling.

Cheers mate!

I can't wait to read some spec's and hear what this card sounds like. The specs look pretty good to me. You also have upgradable Opamps...
