New DAC: ROCKNA RD-2 - Page 3

I consider this dac far better than the stock Zhalou. And i actually prefer it to my Electrocompaniet DAC in my speaker rig, seems more balanced and engaging.
So i`m happy, this dac has saved me a lot of money.

Don Quichotte, thanks for the translations, very interesting, although most comments must refer to an older version.

you're welcome!

Hello everybody. I am from Romania and I have recently bought this DAC. It is abosolutely amazing.
It outpreforms a Rotel RCD 1072 by far. I am now compareing it with a cd player worth more than 1000 euros and they are in the same sound "league". I can't say yet that it is better, but i like it more. Buy with confidence. The price is 249 euros/~300$, and at this price point it outperforms by far everything that I have heard in its price class.

What source are you using?

The reason why I'm asking is that I own the revised version of RD2 and I'm not quite extatic about it. It's good, ok, good value for the money, I agree, a step forward from a cheap player or a soundcard. Maybe even on a par with a 1000 euros cd player but in order to get its full potential one has to pay for an expensive transport and cables (close to the 1000 euros price target)! Even so, RD2 is no match for a BlackLavry, wich sounds obviously better from a cheap soundcard!

Well, I ordered my Rockna RD2 on february 8, 2007 and still didn't recieve anything.

What bothers me most is that the manufacturer doesn't give a real delivery date, although I asked for that in a few e-mails.
It's no problem to wait, but at least they can respond to my emails.

Well, be patient. Even in Romania it's pretty hard to contact the producer. In the end you will receive your brand new RD-2, no doubt about it.
Rockna has announced however about the iminent release of un upgraded version, based on PCM1792 so, if I were you, I would definitely wait a little longer and check the availability of the upgraded version (RD2-MKII).

You are right. I recieved my RD-2 last saturday and i am very happy with it.

Any new reviews/info on the RD-2? If it's really as good as I've read here and elsewhere, I might consider stretching my budget to build one. I like the use of a fully discrete output stage instead of opamps.

why is this thread bombarded with so many new members. looks a bit sus to me if you are just registering to promote this product.

There's also a thread at diyaudio. It seems that they too had issues with delivery speed like other posters here, but it looks like the product has always arrived.

Good point on the new membership thing, that is a bit suspicious. There are a few positive reviews on the diyaudio thread from more established posters though. (Edit: see post #44)

What a fantastic attitude! Just because someone hasn't been a member for long/made many posts and wishes to comment on a piece of equipment that they own and enjoy doesn't make their views 'sus'.

I was in the process of writing a six month review of the RD-2 but I really can't be bothered now.

Thanks for making this such a welcoming forum.

Reviews are always welcomed, no matter who writes them. I've read several awesome reviews by new members. Post count isn't everything. You can ignore posts like clc220's.

Welcome to Head-Fi and sorry for your wallet.

Yes, welcome.

Everyone's getting a little weary about new members these days, with scammers hitting the fs/ft forums as well as some over-enthusiastic remarks made from newer members on other items (the beresford comes to mind, but again no one really knows)

Simply put, no one wants to invest hundreds of dollars in a product and find that it really was all hype. It's a bit of a complex issue.

Everyone's been in the position of a newcomer to a forum and I do agree that these people should get more respect. It seems that postcount often has too much weight on the perceived trustworthiness of a member of any forum, which is regretful but the truth.

Looking very forward to your RD-2 review!

Edit: ijrussell, none of this was specifically targeted to you, an owner of a Meier HeadFive and therefore a donor to head-fi. Your opinions deserve as much weight as any other member.

I just ordered an RD-2. I hope I can be patient. It sounds like a fine product. Thanks to all posters, new and old.
