Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 635

Sennheiser like many companies has a "MAP" policy. MAP = minimum advertised price. Authorized retailers have to live with this rule or risk losing their rights to sell the product.

The fluctuation is do to retailers trying to bend the rules. They are short lived because manufacturers monitor these things. Best bet is to speak to a retailer and ask for a discount. They can sell for less, just can't advertise for less.

Absolutely. Amazon will react quickly when someone tries to cheat MAP. To the point of going below cost sometimes. Amazon wants to kill competition. Working so far. Circuit city is gone. Best buy bleeding cash. It will be sad when we can't go anywhere to see or hear anything because brick and mortar can't lose money to sell something.

It's funny the perception of brick and mortar trying to rip people off. It's the manufacturers rules, not the retailers.

How much will they sell a HD650 for?

If all you care about is rock bottom pricing. Just monitor Amazon. $399 w a $50 gift card is a good deal. If brick and mortar had to match that they won't stay in business for long. If you like being able to go to a shop. Look at products play with them and walk out with new toys, maybe rethink what is important to you.

Since I work in retail I don't mind paying more. I understand the reasoning. I'm ok paying a fair price for something. I don't cry myself to sleep knowing I could of saved a little going online. That's just me.

Unfortunately the internet will kill most retailers. Consumers have stopped caring in my opinion.

I guess thats true, as I love going to brick and mortar stores to try out headphones. But, the one that I go to only carries high-ends making it easier to go to them because there will most likely never be a discount on them.

If you have a store you like. Ask them for a discount. They won't get mad. It happens all the time. I'll discount anything. High end or not. When you make friends at a store it gets easier. My boss has a long time client. He gets first rights on any crazy deals. Have a demo pair of speakers we need to sell? Sell them at cost? He'll get the first call.

They'd most likely give me a discount on their demo LCD-2. But I like my things new, so that'll never happenbiggrin.gif

I've been thinking about the HE400's and HD650's, do the 650's convey the singers emotions better, like, does stuff like Adele sound fantastic on it?
Yes. The HD650's strength is the intimate and rich vocals. The HE400 is better at everything else, for me. They are complimentary to one another.

But if vocals are the number one priority, the HD650 is just absolutely amazing.

Ok, I'm gonna go with the HD650's then, now to save up. So the 650's are great with alternative (Snow Patrol and stuff), right? And what amp's better for the vocals, Crack with Speedball upgrade, or the Schiit Lyr?

Double post.

The only problem I have with the HD650, is that it doesnt do rock or aggressive genres as well as I'd like. It lacks energy. Maybe just a tad slow and reserved? I mean I LOVE the HD650, but its not an all rounder the way the HE400 is.

Im not a fan of the Lyr. I felt the mids to be recessed compared to the bass and treble. Sure, you might find some mid rich tubes, but I preferred all my SS amps over the Lyr. Just...wasnt for me.
