I'd suggest the ODAC + E9 over just the Asgard anyday. In fact, I prefer the E9 over the Asgard. People can shoot me if they want. I do however love the Asgard with the HD-600 and D2000.

Based on my experience, a DAC for the HD-650 is just as important.

Don't let anyone tell you the E9 can't drive the HD-650. Impossible!

You can also later sell the E9 if you want and get something better. E9 is now down to under $95.

BTW E7 I think would be pretty good for the HD-650. That's another OK budget alternative to the ODAC, but the ODAC is worth every penny.

E10 would probably be awful with the HD-650. Worst DAC/amp I ever heard with the HD-598. Oh wait.. I did have the Nuforce Icon Mobile once...

So is a e9 and e7 a good combo to hold out until further notice then? I would just hate to get the e9 and then hold off on getting an upgrade, cause I tend to settle on stuff(headphones, and a bunch of other stuff) and sometimes never go back to upgrade it, or fix it, cause it works "well enough".

Well, you could try the Asgard for $250, but if I knew about it beforehand I wouldn't have bothered. Some people here love it though I guess. You could also look into the O2 for under $150, but I haven't tried it (yet).

I personally prefer amps that will get along with everything unlike the Asgard.

I need to buy the O2 to compare to my Micro Amp and E9. Rarely use the E9, but it's pretty good for the price.
I can't believe so many people skip that thing for their portable amps, ugh.

E11 with the HD-650 is just annoying me right now..

BTW a good idea would be to save another $50 and get the O2+ODAC.
Now I don't know if it's any good, but I do love my ODAC. It seems most people like the O2 with the HD-650...

I haven't ventured into the tube rolling portion of the Lyr yet, so I don't know their full potential, but the Valhalla with the HD650 are really really smooth. I'm actually spending more time with the HD650 than my He-400 to be honest lol

same here...also makes me feel that much better for pulling the trigger on the HD650 first, before the HE-400 (which I still want to get eventually)

I just received the Beyerdynamic T70. I was greatly surprised at the improvement over the HD-650.

That is, until I tried the HD-650 again. They don't sound exactly the same but they're both great.

I have to admit, cycling between the HD650, LCD-2, and T1's.. The 650's are really holding their ground.. Dont get me wrong, both the T1's and LCD-2's easily showcase their technical supremacy, but by the end of the day, the 650's still deliver sound in such a way that the others cant.. smooth, clean, musical smile_phones.gif

All of your opinions will go into my my selection. Thanks, guys.

Straight from the e7, these don't sound very good(sadly, and obviously). My SM3 v2's sound much better. Let's hope to change that soon!

Okay, I had a $50 Amazon gift card, so I took the plunge on the e9. I think this is a good way for me to save the cash for a serious set up fofr my HD650's. And once I am done with it, I can let my brother have it. He isn't a serious audio listenter, but likes good audio quality.

Got the 650's today, have to say wasn't knocked out immediately (my 14 y/o daughter was ecstatic listening to her Skillet). As I keep listening I get the immersion, detail, musical enjoyment of the cans. Am driving from my HiSound Studio V Anniversary, either alone or as an amp for iPod Touch. Haven't got anything to compare it to, but doesn't seem to be lacking to me.

I told myself, "No more headphones!", but I didn't listen. On Black Friday, I succumbed to Amazon's T70 sale price. They're not an open design, like my DT 990 Premium, but I like 'em a lot.

What do you think of the T1 versus the HD-650?

I spent a good amount of time with the T1's vs the HD650's a couple of weeks ago and for me it was no contest, the HD650's were a much more pleasing sound signature. The T1's were very sterile...
