Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 595

I've gone through more than a dozen amps. Several LD's, many of the audio gd nfb series including balanced...the lyr is just a beautiful match for the hd650 and most of the ortho hp's.

Lyr is one of the best values out there and not much matches it.

And as far as hybrid/tube there's nothing that touches it in that price pool.

Well, I tried.  I simply prefer the HD600 to the HD650 sound.  No hard feelings.  So mine are for sale  :

For Sale : Mint HD650

I know this is a HD650 thread, but while we are talking about the Lyr, how would it do with my K702? Is there any noise on the amp or is it dead silent?

same here.

although, i just got my first amp ever, so I'm also not sure whats better than what, just that many 650 owners love the schiit stuff.
if their physical size was smaller i likely would have gotten them, but went in different direction to go with my 650.

Well guys I don't even have mine yet and EVEN I KNOW that the darkvoice is really a "tubey" amp and the lyr is a hybrid that sounds more transparent..... kind of not really apples to apples... correct me if I am wrong...

I'm not concerned about a comparison between amps, just wanting to know if anyone here drives their K702's as well as the HD650 on the Lyr. Only curious. I'm not going to be getting a Lyr any time soon....I don't think...

I'm not trying to brag but you guys should probably thank me for that sennheiser deal it was exclusive and it was suppose to run til 12/14 LOL but it seems it got leaked hard.

Hey guys, I've got a Q for you. I've been wanting some 650's for a long while now, however my budget permits either used 650s or some 598's and a DAC. So I'd be running the 650s from my laptop to an objective o2. With the 598's, I'd buy the objective ODAC. Will I not fully experience the 650's without a DAC? Obviously these two phones have different sigs but I'm just getting tired of my beyers and want to try some kind of senny. Thanks folks, look forward to any thoughts of yours.

I have a Darkvoice 337SE, I like it, but the Lyr with upgraded tubes just stomps on it to my ears at half of the price.  Never heard/owned the 3322 so can't comment on it .

As far as noise, with lower ohm cans I have a impedance adapter that I use to eliminate any noise. I can run my D7ks off the Lyr with no hiss or noise.

Never listened to the K702s but I can assure you the Lyr will easily drive them - it's quite the powerhouse.

If you already have an O2 and the ambient noise of your laptop isn't bothering you with the Beyers, the 650's will be fine without a DAC for now.  The 650 are potentially a permanent upgrade, and you can always pick up a odac further down the line.  But the 598s will eventually leave you wanting more and you'll probably end up buying a 650 anyways...

Thanks Fearless1, this is pretty much what I was wanting to know. I will have a chance to try out a Lyr at a local head-fi meet after Christmas so I'll get to compare it to my DV 3322 anyhow. Also, which impedance adapter do you use?

This one http://www.head-fi.org/t/622476/for-sale-75ohm-impedance-adaptor-for-ety-or-similar-iems

*he changed the ad, he had two on there the one I bought was for Grados. I used it with my Grados to increase the bass a bit, then was messing around with it and the Lyr and found it eliminated all hiss on my lower imp cans. The Lyr is pretty silent any way with a properly grounded power source and the right tubes.

So the other day I saw an ad for HD650s at only $150, so I went to check it out. Turns out the seller had accidentally damaged the cable earlier that day and to make up for it, dropped the price to $120 AND threw in the Total Bithead amp for free. Is that nuts or what?

Great advice.

I'll that this with me, as I move forward.

Dont feel bad. Its like me preferring a pair of KSC35s over something like the HD800. Not that I've heard the HD800, but if its more analytical and less musical, its a possibility.
The HD650 is an amazing headphone. No, its not perfect, but it does so many things well, and is affordable (by head-fi standards), it should be tried out by most of us. I wish I could afford having the HE400 and the HD650 at the same time.
