Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 593

Here the description for this tube, from the Little Dot thread :

3.8 Mullard M8100 / CV4010

The Mullard house sound is much warmer compared to the GE tubes reviewed above. The warm tone is especially complimentary to female vocals where sultry voices such as Norah Jones and Dianna Krell’s come across as positively seductive. With rock music, the full body bass has a visceral impact. These tubes don’t have the sweetest treble of the EF95 family (that title goes to the 6ZH1P-EV), but they nevertheless manage to give the music a sense of presence and body. Trumpets and strings unfortunately don’t have the most prat or the most natural decay but these are sins of omission that I could happily live with.

Bass: 20

Mid: 20

Treble: 18

Detail: 18

Soundstage: 18

Total: 94/100

I have to agree!  I rarely post here mainly because with my Little Dot and HD650, I am getting more than what I paid for IMO.  Fully satisfied!

Back to the topic, if you want a little more of detail/extension, use M8083(the one with the blue band, you have to change the switch though) and it is pretty to look at too.  Or you can try the CBS Hytron 6AK5's which, ones they settle down, in my opinion has everything.

One more thing before I go,look at the pic.  Internally, the two tubes are the same in construction(I did not check the getter) except for fewer ridges on the support micas for the yellow labeled tubes.  But the "yellow" ones have lots of detail!  I do not know why.  I will check the date codes when I have time and see what info I can get from it.

700

I truly enjoy my HD650 with this little OTL amp.  Enjoy!

The Sennheiser 650's were my second pair of headphones after the HD-25II, It was like a was listening to whole new songs, the clarity from the headphones enabled me to pick up subtle melodies. As a musician I love these headphones... If only I had more money, equipment is so expensive frown.gif !!

I just got my E7/E9.  Oh my god so beautiful.  The HD650s are so smooth and full sounding its orgasmic

One question- with the E7 plugged in( my Senn HD650s have a L/R imbalance), I can't adjust the audio balance( it doesn't respond).  With my udac2> e9, it works.

Any idea what the deal is?

Don't quote someone directly above you, it's a waste of space, even more so when it's a spammer.

Yes I have the E17 which is similar to the E7, when the E7 is docked in the E9 the amp part is disabled and only functions as a DAC.

Have the 650/asguard both in the mail coming to me.

Hoping this is regarded as a decent combo.

In any case- subscribed.

Got the HD 650 for 475 and a free $50 Amazon gift card!

Total price was $512, but the gift card was what tipped me over. Now I have to decide on an amp. Very tight budget, so I will look at many options. Thinking of just saving up some cash for the Little Dot 4.
