Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 557

Hi guys,

yes I've already read a lot of interesting threads, maybe 3 or 4 full days reading the forum!! :)

I think I will start with the Schiit combo, Bifrost + Lyr. If needed I could try several tubes on the Lyr. Moreover they are distributed in France, it will be easier to order.

Thanks a lot for your help!

That's a great place to start. I've been through about a dozen amps and I enjoy the lyr more than any of them. It just pairs well. Once I find a set of tubes that sound "right" to me, I have no need for tube hopping. For me, I'm really enjoying the Lorenz right now.

gL!!

Hey everyone,

I've just ordered the HD650 and was wondering what amp + dac you would recommend. I would like to keep it under 300$ if possible. I'm considering the Maverick Synaudio D1 + Xonar DX as I've read that they go well together (I'm also going to connect my Bose Companion 20 computer speakers to the DAC). I will use them to listen to music/watch movies/play games. How would this combination be compared with for example a Xonar DX + Asgard or Xonar DX + Valhalla? Appreciate help!

EDIT: Should add that I'm a beginner when it comes to audio, although I want to make an investment as I listen to music >6h/day when I work/study and I love watching movies.

They're just so comfortable that I somethings doze off listening to ambient/house music lol

there are folks that do that...or actually sleep with their headphones on.  I have no idea how they manage to do that without breaking them, or strangling themselves....but some do!

The only can's I've ever fallen asleep with them on my head was HD650....once, but it was while sitting up redface.gif

I have my CK²III on my night stand beside my bed.  I doze off all the time.  I don't go to bed with them on, but I get good naps in.

Yes, I agree with you and understand where you are coming from.

I almost wanted to sell my HD650 in a few occasions, but I always afraid I will have to buy them later again.

Don't do it. You'll be hard pressed to find these kind of mids at this price. Just keep 'em till Sennheiser comes out with a true replacement and then we'll give it a listen.

I have only had a couple of hours with the HD800's. They were new and using a new set of Entreq cables on the Burson 160DS. I switched between them and the HD650's with the Toxic Silver Poisons and I preferred the HD650's. Of course we're talking new 800's and cables vs fully broken in 650's and cables. I also did not have a perfectly quiet listening environment at the store. With that stuff in mind, I was gratified that the 650's held their own as well as they did. You never know around here about upgrades. Maybe I'll get the 800's some day, but I am certainly not concerned about enjoying a great night of music with the 650's!

I don't ever see mine going anywhere either. They have unique sound I haven't been able to find anywhere else and I doubt I ever do. I do have a pair of HE-500 inbound but I still don't see my HD650's going anywhere!

I pass out at my desk (at home) from time to time with the HD650 on... they're so comfy.  The nice thing is that when I wake up, my ears aren't as hot and sweaty as they would be with most closed pair of headphones.

Meanwhile, I once made the mistake of using them for TV watching ... my couch is so comfy ... and when I woke up, I was lying down, and the weight my my head had snapped the HD650 headband, so I had to send them in for repairs.  Never again.  I keep the HD595 around for TV watching now specifically for this reason.

Let me know what you think of the HE-500... they're on the "someday maybe" list for me.
