Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 539

Lately i have been busy all day,and that's nice when you come back to Head-Home and see this is still a very active thread (and old too).I liked the idea to post our HD650 picture too.

Fortunately yesterday i finally received my first own pair of HD650!I have been obliged to pay some extra taxes from our Brazilian super-stupid

income duties policies, but i still made a save because a new pair here is charged almost at 1000 dollars for a new pair.I just asked to vampire5003 to declare a value of 40 dollars ,so they just charged me 60% of the value of the product and the price of the delivery from the federals, yeah ,and more 50% for my own state tax.

I am now waiting for the rest of my rig to reach home ,so at the moment i am just plugging it to the notebook out ( uffff..),but so far so good!I sound indeed more balanced against my previous DT990 250 pro plugged into a Nuforce U-Dac2 (which was a bad choice in my opinion).I just hope i do not miss my Beyers hehe.As soon as possible i take a picture to my (long lasting ,i hope) new rig.

By the way,in those last pages i saw some nice tube amplifiers around here!!beerchug.gif

As someone who owns both, you will miss the Beyers.  They are a really good compliment to the HD650s.  Sorry

Indeed... I'm using a Russian 6AS7G / 6H13C (http://thetubestore.com/russian6h13c.html) with mine.  I've gone with the basic look.

That's my HD650 plugged into it... love the combo.  Definite had some problems with the tubes.  One bad tube had me thinking I messed up the build (I had no replacements).  Another one had a slight hiss at all volumes thinking something else was messed up.  It was the 12AU7 tube causing me problems both times... switching from an Electro-Harmonix one to a Tung Sol made things silent (as in, I don't know if it's on unless I see the tubes glowing and/or am playing music).  It's pretty well detailed with a nice tubey sound to it.  I'm a fan.

Hey all - just received my HD650 and a sigh of relief. Although I'm limited to the portable amp (E17), the performance is beyond my expectations - and I'm sure there's even more room for improvement. I have tried an older/used (perhaps abused?) HD650 and it had no detail whatsoever. I wasn't sure if this was the dark/veiled sound with rolled off highs owners described. Well, with this version, I don't get that impression at all - at least to the extremes I've read about. Cheers!

You will not be disappointed. The lyr delivers on all levels for me. I thought the Asgard was a very good solid state amp. The lyr is everything the Asgard and much more. Now you can drive any of the orthos out there including lcd2/3 ect.

Thanks.  The transformer cover was a little oily - so I wiped it off with alcohol and scuffed it up just a bit with sandpaper, then used the RustOleum Universal paint I mentioned earlier.  Went on well - used a couple of coats.  It was easy.

Just got the musical fidelity M1 HPA  and the M1 DAC. OMG these sound awesome with the hd650.

I just received a new pair of HD 650's. What cable would pair up the best with them. My source/amp would come from Lyr/DX100.

+1 lol.. No need to spend even more money just yet. If you aren't happy later on, the option to upgrade isn't going to go anywhere, trust me wink_face.gif.

Agree, no need to upgrade, but a good silver plated copper cable makes a nice improvement for an ok price. Plenty of options out there too.

Stock cable is nice and warm and smooth. Upgraded materials generally bring a slightly faster, leaner sound with a bit more top end clarity.
