In a word, yes. It's a close call tbh, but head to head I feel the hd650 comes out on top. It's more comfortable more entertaining musical experience for me anyway.

isn't the 650 like a dynamic version of a planar driver? Sounds more like one than any other can I know.

Lot's of different things. I like some pop like DMB, Jazz ie Diana Krall, Rock such Smashing Pumpkins and a little country even, newer stuff.

I've only amped it with the e09 and odac. So I feel that I haven't even heard the best of it yet. No review here...just wanted to say that I am truly enjoying music on this hp.

Good to know you found something even better than the he-400s!  Honestly, i didn't think it was going to happen that quick after reading your review. tongue.gif

I'm ready to buy the lyr, again, and call this end game for me. Anything better than the lyr at it's price point with the 650?

<-- would also like to know :D

The Bottlehead Crack is a common suggestion around that price point.  It supposedly pairs fantastically with the 650.  I've never heard it though so take it for what it's worth.

If I were in your position Matt I would probably get the Lyr anyway since it will dirve the HE-400s well too.

I listened to the Fostex T50RP for a few hours. It has a different sound altogether but it's the only isodynamic I've heard.

All seniors that has hd650, need help here please.

I want to replace my m50 with either 650 (360usd) or beyer 990pro 250ohm (220 usd). I will use it for music listening and gaming (50-50) indoor only. The equipments are Asus g73jw and Fiio E17 (for now, I will change it eventually)

I know the 650 will satisfy my music need, but what about gaming? I usually played cs go, tf2, l4d2 and sc2. What I need for gaming is a good wide soundstage. The beyer has it and all threads recommend them for gaming need. But how about the 650? How is the soundstage compared to the Beyer? Details? There are no threads praising 650 for its soundstage...

My friend said that the 650 will be better investment in a long run. I know the fiio will not run it properly, but I will change it later when I have the spare money.

Any help will be appreciated.

+1 on this

If you are plan on keeping the he400s, get the lyr. But,  if you're planning on selling the he400s, get the crack. I've heard it pairs even better with the hd650s than the lyr does, and plus if you build it yourself, you save a lot of money.

I think they are great for gaming. I used to have the 598s, which were amazing for gaming, but I really don't think the 650s are inferior.

Any other opinion? Someone please describe the 650 soundstage, maybe compared to dt990pro 250ohm if possible.

I actually think the HD650s are better for gaming than the DT990Pros.  HD650s have more atmospheric tones.  DT990s have more brightness.
