Actually saw Supertramp live for the Breakfast In America Tour.. glad to see there are some old timers like me on the forums wink_face.gif

I saw that tour as well. I have all the Enigma CD's and I just replaced Aja (it got scratched beyond repair after 20 years.) Old timers....whew...At least we know Jethro Tull was NOT in the band..biggrin.gif

Isn't there well-recorded music that wasn't listened to by stoned people in the 70s and 80s?

390 Hz 2 oct BW -3.0 dB

5000 Hz HP(6dB) +3.5 dB

Thats all they need!  Make those beautiful mids come out.  Bring back some sparkle .  No more veil which is really just the (slight) upper bass hump and rolled off highs.  The boost in the sub bass brings it all home - although these open phones can only do so much sub bass (which is actually pretty decent).  Bass details are still lacking.  The phones still retain its warm signiture and is still forgiving of crappy recordings (which is what I really like about them).   I don't listen to Steely Dan and Diana Krall all day, lol!  Musical details are always there with these phones - they are just not thrown in your face!

I already had the bass and 10-20khz boosted but I never tried adding a bump at 3.5-5khz... They definately sound better when EQ'd by a few Db at this range... Good advice!.... Not sure if I like the dip at 400hz but you are right it does remove the bloat a bit and make them sound faster although I think I prefer it left flat here.

This is the EQ settings I use on Foobar EQ.....

55hz     + 6db

75hz     + 3db

3.5khz  + 2db

5khz      +3db

14khz     + 2db

20Khz     + 3db

This definately makes them sound better / faster than stock EQ although it is still a shame that the bass is a bit lacking on them. I am a bit worried that I might regret swapping them for another pair... I need more money dammit.

What's your point...biggrin.gif

I'm not saying these classic recordings are worthless...it's just that I got....altered....to different music (I'm 37).  Regardless, music didn't just stop in the 70s and 80s (although it's shocking how much is 'borrowed' from that music).  I'd be curious what you'd think of this:

Both samples sound great:

  • Asus G74>Sennheiser IE80
  • Asus G74>Corda Stepdance (powered 12v external)>Sennheiser HD 650

Even though I am 52 I can enjoy new music.

Thanks for bringing it up.

The bass hump starts about 100 hz and end around 800-900 hz.  Thats why I use a wide (2 oct) parametric curve and drop it -3 dB.  So other than your settings at 75 - 3.5 hz, your setting are close to mine i think.  Try dropping those down or removing them and see what you think.

I was on an elevator recently and a teen got on wearing a Trivium T-shirt. I was wearing a suit for work. I commented that I preferred The Crusade CD to their Ascendancy CD....He just looked at me, then he I'd "You listen to Trivium??!!". I think he probably burned the shirt...biggrin.gif

Hey all I have the 650's amped via the headphone out on my NAD 3020 amp. I'm using the stx as my dac. How much higher would the 650's scale with a proper headphone amp say a Bottlehead Crack with the speedball?

Thanks

Well Mickey I went ahead and re purchased the HD 650 was all ready to spring for the 700 but couldn't justify the extra money, and based on the appreciation thread you responded to and my past experience with them I am again an owner of the 650. Thx again.
