Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 409

I know that the stock cable is quite good. I already tried it.

I called my main post office that serves my area and they confirmed that they have the USPS express mail package at their location. I told them that I want to walk to the post office and pick it up in person. They said that it will be ready for pickup by 10:00 AM this morning. It is less than 0.9 miles away from my home. I will call the main post office and confirm that my package is ready to be picked up before I take my walk. I should have it by noon today. My hope is that they were shipped safely and the Cardas cable will work with my Sennheiser HD-650 headphones.

I have a pending transaction for my Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable. I hope to be able to sell it by the end of this week to another Head-Fi member. Quite frankly, I do not want to collect boutique cables for my Sennheiser HD-650 headphones. The Cardas and stock cables are sufficient.

I finally got my Cardas cable for my Sennheiser HD-650 headphones. They are the newer version with the gray jacket. I plugged them into my HD-650s and I confirm that they work properly. I am getting a stereo sound from my headphones. This cable is 10' long and it is more than long enough for me. It is more flexible than the Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable for my Sennheiser HD-650 headphones. It is too early to tell how they sound, but I can say that I like them more than the Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable by a good margin. I am happy that I got them. I think that this will complete my upgrades for the rest of this year. I will focus on purchasing new music from now on until the end of this year. I am going to let them burn in for at least one solid week before I write up my mini review.

Ha ha ha!

Don't use the US Postal Service Express mail if you really want to make sure that something will be delivered to a location next day.

It was worth the effort and cost. I finally got the Cardas cable for my HD-650s. Now, my music sounds better to my ears. So far, the Cardas cable is more transparent and revealing especially for micro dynamics, resolution, and detail retrieval. It has a more expansive sound stage that is wider and more deeply layered with textures. The treble is airy, extended, and smooth. There is more warmth in the bass and mid range that gives it a honey golden sound.

I have been switching the stock, Moon Audio Blue Dragon, and Cardas cables for the past couple of minutes and it is pretty easy for me to tell the differences. Cables do matter. They help to fine tune the sound that you want to achieve. Remember, I have mostly Cardas Golden Reference Power cords and Interconnects in my high end audio system. I know the Cardas sound. I also heard the Cardas Clear cables in my high end audio system and they are utterly transparent, neutral, clear, and accurate. I may upgrade to Cardas Clear cabling in two years from today.

I am done with hardware upgrades for my high end audio system. My focus will be to buy newly released music CDs for the rest of this year. I am waiting for the new Aimee Mann CD to be released among other artists, bands, composers, singers, and bands. I usually do not stray too far away from my favorites and I do not try experimental music too often. I am a music fan of many popular, contemporary, and famous artists and musicians. I go with the established names in the music industry.

I have an enviable high end audio system. Next January 2013, I will seriously contemplate getting a new pair of Sennheiser HD-800 headphones with the Cardas Clear cable upgrade. I still have my doubts that my audio system can handle the HD-800 with the Cardas cable, but I will find out by doing business with HeadRoom Corporation to get mine. I would characterize my audio system as the older generation of state of the art components. It is not competitive to current generation top of the line audio components today. I know exactly where my limitations lie in my audio system. This is why I am so hesitant to get the HD-800 with the Cardas cable. I might hear things that magnify the flaws in my audio system which will prompt me to spend an excessive amount of money to get the current generation of top of the line digital source component, headphone amplifier, cables, and power generator.

The Cardas cable for my Sennheiser HD-650 is a nice combination. It brings out the bass and mid range to the forefront so that female vocals sound warm and intimate. There is a golden honey sound that permeates the tonal balance which is liquid, warm, and sweet. It sounds like my Cardas Golden Reference Power cords and Interconnects. Clarity, resolution, detail retrieval, and micro dynamic shading is finer with greater ease and effortlessness. I can listen deeper into the music and find it particularly delightful. The music sounds right to my ears in terms of pitch accuracy and smoothness. Trebles are airy, clear, and smooth with no roll off. My Resolution Audio Opus 21 music system is particularly well reviewed for its clarity and focus in the treble region. I am hearing it from the source with greater authority. Cardas makes cables that sing achingly directly to the soul. I feel more emotionally connected to the music because the sound is exactly what I had aimed to achieve. Imagine dressing up for an important interview, meeting, or appointment. That's how my high end audio system sounds right now after I finally acquired the Cardas cable for my Sennheiser HD-650 headphones. It sounds absolutely gorgeous. These are noticeable differences that I can tell quite easily when I swap out cables in my audio system. It is like a world famous chef who knows which ingredients and seasoning will maximize the flavors of your favorite meal. I knew that this was the last piece of the puzzle that I needed. I think that you have to have a state of the art audio system to be able to derive maximum satisfaction by investing in high end cabling.

The only thing that I can imagine myself doing is getting the Audioquest Diamond 1.5 meter USB cable. I auditioned it last week and I wrote a mini review.

I am not convinced that I need a Sennheiser HD-800 with Cardas cable. What I have satisfies me for now. I don't want to get a hyper revealing top of the line headphone that magnifies all of the flaws in my audio system because I know it is not perfect anytime soon.

What do you want for them? Just curious what used cables go for.

I will leave the cable debate aside for analogue signals, but getting a different cable for digital data transmission is just plain stupid.
The USB protocol already has high enough standards to ensure that no data loss is possible, especially over the short length of 1.5m. Jitter is not an issue either since the USB interface is asynchronous.

I don't mean to insult you judgement, but technically speaking there is nothing that a better USB cable could improve apart from aesthetics and built quality. It cannot, and I can't stress this enough, affect sound quality in any way. Any changes in perceived sound quality due to changing USB cables can only be caused by placebo.

Edit: Wait, what? He got banned? I didn't really agree with him, but I don't think he did anything bad enough to get banned over.

I can't imagine why he was banned from looking at his posts themselves.

Also I just noticed this reply to me from one of you:

It is strange to believe, that if I am so inclined to believe your suggestion that my elderly stature may have left me with hearing not so acute, that I should disagree with the above argument and stand with yourself in regards to the two instruments being discussed.  In due time, perhaps your point of view shall change...providing of course that time is more generous to your senses than it has mine. I do hope perhaps one day, that you should realise that time itself could be advantageous to the virile and youthful.  This old man shall no longer engage in these pointless arguments and bid you good night.

I noticed you added text to my quote you posted. That was weird. More importantly though I have no clue why you're trying to obfuscate your post. Saying things "If I am so inclined to believe your suggestion ..." does not make one appear wiser or smarter or anything, except that they know how to add padding/fluff words.

As for hearing loss, it is sadly a very real thing that exists in the world, unfortunately. Point of view has nothing to do with it though.

This is what he said to me in a PM when I inquired about the Blue Dragon he was selling:

Fallingreason:

Here is the confidential information that you must agree to keep secret.

My real name is Welly Wu. I joined Head-Fi in 2003. I asked Jude Mansilla to ban me several times over the past several years because I had problems with the community and I wrote some pretty negative comments against Head-Fi on the public forums. Jude decided to ban me permanently. I asked him to lift my ban, but he decided to ban me permanently.

If you want to do business with me, then check my user feedback under my real name Welly Wu. You will see that I am a trustworthy member.

Phoebe Fairchild is my alias here. Do not reveal my true identity to anyone most especially the Head-Fi administrators or moderators. If you do so, then you will lose this potential sale for the Moon Audio Blue Dragon cable for your Sennheiser HD-650 headphones and you won't have the ability to do your empirical research.

If you reveal my true identity, then I will be permanently banned. I don't want this to happen to me again.

Now, I have no choice but to trust you with this confidential information.

I didn't say anything to anyone because frankly, I didn't care and it seemed really strange for him to share such information...o_0    I guess someone spilled the beans though.

A big thank you to the mods for putting an end to Pheobe's reign of "cardas golden reference" terror.

I'm still undecided as to whether PF's posts were intended as a spoof, or whether the he/she was an earnest whackjob.

Favorite PF quote: "Cardas makes cables that sing achingly directly to the soul."  /guffaw
