The Moon Audio Silver or Black Dragon: Headphone Cable

I heard the Silver or Black Dragon and Equinox keeps the HD650's sonic signature but improves it. The Zu Mobius tends to make it brighter and makes big changes the HD650's sound.

I just ordered the Black Dragon because I like the HD650's sound but wanted a bigger soundstage, more 3D sound. And also because it's the cheapest of them all. I don't want to pay over $200 for a 5 ft cable.

EDIT: I should clarify that by cheapest, I don't mean bad quality or sound. From the reviews I read here, the Moon Audio Silver Dragon and Black Dragon are very well made and sound amazing.
Hi lmf22

just wondering how much the black dragon 5ft cable cost you? on the site it simply says "SOLD OUT" wondering how much it costs...

Don't forget that 30% cashback deal through MS Live Search....saved me $60 on a Blue Dragon.

My 10' APS v3 w/ super nylon sleeve and Furutech plug is due this week...CAN'T WAIT! I've re-fallen in love with my HD650s since I got my new amp, the Woo 3+. I kinda miss the clarity, imaging, and airiness of the Little Dot MKV, but this amp is new and will open up in time with use and burn-in. I've come to the conclusion that the HD650 really can't live up to its potential without tubes...the MKV sounded great, but it always seemed like something was missing. The Woo blows away the myth of veil on the 650's - they sound warm yet have clear and extended highs, deep and articulate bass, and liquidy mids...just beautiful. In addition to the APS cable, I have two sets of tubes coming soon too...Siemens E88CC/6922s and Siemens E188CC/7308s...the neutrality and airiness of the Siemens tubes should mesh nicely with the warmth of the Senns. Can't wait, like I said, lol...

Pretty dramatic changes too ...

Bass more defined, much more soundstage width and deep, highs more pronounced (without be too much). Raise up the veil too but still keep the sennheiser sonority in general.

It's expansive but HD650 with stock ... you miss all the quality they can give you.

Somes don't hear a big improvement ...

I suggest you to try to audition one before buy because Equinox cost more than a new pair of HD650. 8-(

Another happy Equinox LE + Hd650 user....driven by the Woo6 with a forward sounding rectifier like the GE 5r4gya, the sound is very addictive..perfect for classical and jazz. The effects of the Equinox cable for me were subtle but noticeable. What I recall from comparing with the stock was increased clarity or resolution, which gave the feeling of "openness" . Its been said many times on the forum, and I would agree that the Equinox enhances the HD650 without greatly changing its sound signature.

Opps!!! I meant the BLUE DRAGON. I just finished writing a research paper when I typed that. My eyes must have been playing tricks on me. Sorry!

ahh cool i see $175. Thats still more than i should be spending Value for money wise, its probably best i go for a ~$200 darkvoice or little dot valve amp to upgrade my D2 Viper rather than a cable for almost the same price !

Exactly. 1) you need to amp them properly, and 2) the stock cable isn't that bad, and 3) people claim new cables are capable of wonderous, magical things, but really...that's the last 10% you should be focussing on.

Even upgrading from a ibasso D2 to darkvoice 336SE or littledot Mk III, do you think i'll get a noticeable boost in sound quality?

I haven't heard the D2 (other than good things about it), but the HD650 REALLY sounds amazing out of tube amps. They are very power hungry phones, and tubes can provide the current they need for demanding passages (dynamic swings). The DV or LD will do the job nicely, and will give you the best bang for the buck. If you can, you should hold out a while longer and go for the DV...note that it's going to cost you another AUD$90 to ship to you (if you buy new from Ebay), but scour the used stuff here in the for sale section. YOu can then look into upgrading the stock tubes...that's always fun!

mmm yeah thats what im thinking. holding off to grab the DV 336SE for a bit extra. cheers for the advice

I have asked in the DIY section, and not a nibble.
