Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 303

To all the NFB-12 owners in this thread, what settings do you use? i'm currently using 8x oversampling, minimum phase apodising filter and it's not bad but could be a little better.

Its damn good when playing songs that are in flac but when i try to play other songs or songs from youtube everything sounds terrible.

I am using a USB iBasso D4 Mamba as a DAC. Are there Win7 settings for an upsampled EQ I can use? Freeware programs?

I need to try these, anyone down to lend me a pair for a week? tongue.gif

If you were MUCH more experienced on this forum, like a contributor with more than 20 positive feedbacks then sure, but where you are now, nope sorry buddy. If you're in the US you could buy them on Amazon and get free super saver shipping, try them,a nd only have to pay like the $10 to ship them back. Like "renting" them :) That's what I'd do.

Oh yeah, does anyone here have a good recable that is honestly worth the money? I considered the Zu cable for about 5 minutes until I read about the microphonics and how terrible the noise is even from slight movements. Plus, can I get the Zu cable terminated in balanced 4 pin XLR for the Audio-gd NFB-10SE for the 650s? I oughta get one to see if I hear a difference from cables or not.

They are the cheapest I've seen on Amazon right now also, I'm sure it won't stay that way long.  Why does everything drop in price right after I buy something, doesn't matter what it is.

I recommend Zombie_X cables service wink.gif

Going to ask him to do some interconnects for my CLAS and he did a great job on my Ultrasone cable for only $120 shipped. Oh and if you want a silver cable, ask for the "Clarity" cable.

Did the upgrade cables make a sound difference to you? I might order a Lightning with Neutrik 4 pin XLR someday. But then, I wouldn't be able to tell if the sound change was from going to balanced, or the cable itself, or both.

Honestly I'm not sure if it made a sound change due to it being a pure copper cable, but it did make a difference by going balanced. Now the reason I bought it was because the stock cable for my Pro 900 was 10', was really stiff, and had 4pin XLRs at the end. So the only was I could use it was with an adapter, which made it even heavier. So in the end the $120 was easily worth it as I got a 3'5" "Truth" cable with a 4 pin mini XLR Male, then a 5" Mini XLR female to RSA Balanced. So this cable allows me to change to whatever end I need and all I have to do is order it. Would also recommend getting the "Clarity" because the HD650 is a warm can and the silver will make it more neutral, which in tern will make a sound difference you can hear.

Clarity? Sounds like my kind of cable but the only ones listed are Lightning and Truth. Where is the Clarity?

It's not listed for some reason, I need to tell him. Anyways here is how his listing goes:

"Clarity" - Pure Silver
"Truth" - Pure Copper
"Lightning" - Silver Plated Copper

In the description of the Lightning, it sounds like my kind of cable:

"Try one if you want more treble in your diet or find the Sennheiser's too dull sounding."

I don't need *more* treble but more defined and extended treble with more musicality and detail. I do kind of find the Sennheiser's "dull" so would this be my cable to get? What is the description of the Clarity? Should I just ask him?

So guys, what would you recomend Harmony design ear 90 or Naim Headline 2 for Hd650?

I have it on whatever the default was when I purchased it, and it sounds great to me on all types of songs for the most part. I mostly listen to Grooveshark.com which is likely compressed mp3 of varying bit rates.

Honestly your best bet for fixing the "dull" thing you're hearing is to EQ it slightly to boost the treble. Even assuming cables can do this for you and putting aside that argument, an EQ is still far cheaper and honestly when done right isn't going to hurt sound quality.

I guess so but I'm not looking for quantity but quality. I want more extended and sparkly/musical treble, not necessarily more. A touch more would be nice but that isn't all I'm looking for.
