Hey Purrin,

In your plot, you suggested that the HD 600/650 should be the go-to set for beginners, and I have to say I agree - but the question is, whence from there if you like the sound?  LCD 2 rev.2 seem like the natural choice, but where else could you go?  The HD 650s do have a touch slow bass response compared to a live performance, it's about the only thing that draws me out of the spell (well that and the soundstage, but I'm about to address that...).

Right now, I just got Fidelia working with an AU wrapped VST plugin called Isone that is kinda blowing me away (I've never heard electronic music sound so alive and organically REAL) - but like all HRTF, leaves them from a little to a lot brighter than they might otherwise be.  You can EQ it down, but I only need to do that for a few songs.  That said, I'd be concerned that the combo would be unusable for any cans that are already treble-heavy.

Amazon's got them for $360 right now.  That's the cheapest I've seen except for a few $320 crazy deals around Christmas.

You may also want to look in the for-sale forum and see if anyone is selling them used.

You can go many directions from HD600/650: LCD2, HD800, or STAX O2 or 009. Maybe even ESP950.

On amazon if you go the used section Dahmart has them for $319.  Dahmart is the Amazon store for Authorized Seller Dakmart.  I got mine from them in "used like new" condition.. when I got them they were brand new never been unsealed inside.  the outer paper box was a little beat up so probably a return.  you might want to check them out.

I had been thinking about ordering from them, only yesterday the auction 650's that were $338 are gone. The only ones are $499 now. Even the 600's on amazon have gone up to $399. The 650's are cheaper than the 600's on amazon right now.

Am I the only one here who seems to not find the 650s very good for blues/jazz? I just listened to some of the same music on my Klipsch S4s and all the details were there on the IEMs that were there on the 650s. ???

I got these for rock but now I prefer jazz/blues for listening sessions and hip hop for when I'm mobile and out of the house. These aren't very enjoyable for me for jazz/blues for some reason.

The 600's are 300$ from Razerdog. He's an authorized dealer, I know him personally, and he sells like 10-15 of these direct from Sennheiser a week.

About March this year, Sennheiser raised the HD 6xx series by 12%.... HD 600 used to be 279$, now it's 300$. HD 650 used to be 320$ (What I got mine for). Now it's 340+$.

Razerdog is the cheapest reputable dealer (who is a pleasure to deal with btw) you cannot go wrong with him

I looked up that store and didn't find them any cheaper than Amazon.  Couldn't find them for $340.  Gotta link?

He's had some for two years..... At those prices... He must be out of them, or this worries me... I'll call him.

My birthday was yesterday and now I have enough extra money to buy a 650!!!!  biggrin.gif  Before I pull the trigger though I wondered, what is the lowest price these are currently going for?  Razor Dog is the lowest I've seen lately at 334.  Amazon's shot up to over 420 today for some reason.
