Interesting concept, but you'll need DIY skills to accomplish.

edit: removed link

There are at least a couple of professional builders offering O2's for $120 I believe?  Like USG said though, links to the designer's page are verboten on head-fi.

Since when? I didn't know that...my bad.

Specifically to that site.

Ohh ok I thought links in general. Why no linking to whatever site it is?

This may not be the appropriate place, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend an alternative to the HD650.  The left speaker on mine went dead 2 weeks after the 2 year warranty expired.  After going through 4 pairs of PX100s that broke, and now this, I've decided to not buy Sennheiser products any more on principle.  I love their headphones (when they work) but I would just feel like a complete sucker if I continued buying their products.

So if anyone knows of an open headphone that is wonderful quality, with a similar veiled (low on treble, higher on bass and mids) Sennheiser house sound I'd love to hear suggestions.

I think this is a good place to ask, it's not like you wanted them to break (sorry to hear that). I like my HD 650s so much I'd probably just pay Sennheiser to fix them, but I can understand you feel frustrated getting bad luck with all your PX100s :(. I'd recommend alternates but I don't have enough headphone experience. Hopefully someone can help.

I wish Jenna Marbles would do a video review on why the HD650 is so b*****n. Maybe I should ask her.

I guess you're kinda rough on headphones.  My HD424s are still working fine.  So are my PX100s, my PX200s and my HD650s from '04.

Maybe all you need is a new cable for your 650s.  Try switching the cable from one side to the other and see if the driver is bad or just the cable.  If it's the cable, Senn. sells them for $12.00.  I replaced mine about a year ago.  Be careful plugging it in.  One prong is thicker than the other.  Make sure it's going in the right way.

Could be the cable itself, or the socket that makes contact with the cable terminations could have failed. Don't give up on these yet!

No, I definitely tried unplugging and plugging, and also switching, the cables.

I was definitely quite rough with the PX100s (actually I would probably still continue to buy them if they were available, no other portable headphone will ever compare) but I treated the HD650 like a queen.  It certainly seems to be the driver.

Hi, just registered to head-fi. I was seeking high quality headphones for music earlier this year and stumbled across this thread, and decided on the HD650 with FiiO E7/E9.

I am now taking into consideration that my E7 as a DAC could be a bottleneck to the HD650s true potential. So now with money to burn, I am looking into higher quality DACs, to pair with the E9.

I am considering something like the HRT II+ or preordering a Bifrost. Would there be a considerable change in sound quality or am I in over my head?
