Sigh .....

Objective Koolade anyone?

I think maybe he needs an ear transplant

I do think the STX is great value though, especially if you want to be able to record too (I still use mine to give coax to Bimby) and my O2 only cost ~ $30 to build, but if you amortise a Jot over 5 years it's silly to complain about the cost for the benefit you receive.

Try plugging in one side and listening with both ears. The amount of junk passed through to the 'dead' ear is terrible. They also get quite hot so tube life isn't great and neither is the life of the amp.

Apart from that, I guess they must be a bargain. wink.gif

okay, I guess I'll let my friend know to take it of her list of cheap amps.

Me?! Never! I traded the kid next door my whole setup for his old 1st gen iPhone and despite only being able to fit ~10 ALAC albums on its 4GB storage, I'm now using that exclusively with my HD650s. My eyes are open.

I decided to give the HD 650 another shot. Some reason having the ache to have this headphone again. Always felt like I was missing out on their potential. I get the feeling they will be a really good compliment to my T1.2.

I have the Sennheiser HD650's with a Kimber Kable Axios headphone cable. The 650's are awesome. I have the Tesla T1's, 2nd gen as well. I love the 650's, but I'm gaga over my Tesla's though 😏😏[IMG] if your interested in my equipment inventory, check my profile for a complete listing

How is the Little Dot MK III with the T1.2 and HD 650? I had a Valhalla 2 but returned it because it was a disappointment.

The little dot MK3 is pretty good with The Tesla. I'm using Sovtek 6n30pi power tubes, which put out 500mw each. That's 1/2 watt per tube. But overall, I'm happy. I'm currently using Mullard M8100 tubes. Love em! 😄😄

New owner of the HD 650 here.  Using them primarily with Fiio E10K and getting surprisingly good results.  Was concerned that the E10K wouldn't be enough to drive them but it does just fine, even on low gain.  Even my iphone 6 can drive them but at 90-100% volume.  I'm coming from using 598 open back (have to make that distinction now since release of 598 Cs closed back model) for about a year now.  Love the 598 sound, but wanted to hear what the hype was about with the 650.

Very first impressions out of the box connected to iphone 6 was that they are very clear and balanced.  Bass was lacking coming from 598 but that was expected, especially driven by iphone.  However, neutrality, balance, transparency, and clarity are noticeably better than 598.  Imaging is much better than 598 but soundstage size and ambiance is better on the 598.

Since using them with the E10K and at times using its bass boost, the sound is really growing on me.  I'm loving the silky smooth seductive mids and vocals, clarity and balanced sound.  I can easily fall asleep with these on even with the music at moderately loud levels.  I've gone to bed listening to them and fallen asleep more than once already.  The sound is so smooth and non fatiguing, yet still nicely detailed.

I like the softer more laid back sound of the Sennheisers.  It allows me to hear deeper into the music than more forward or engaging cans.  I don't like brightness.  Maybe I have sensitive hearing?

I've since ordered a Magni 2 to use with AQ Dragonfly 1.2 DAC.  The Dragonfly by itself sounds very good, maybe just a touch bright.  Used with the Magni 2, it sounds too bright for my taste.  I connected iphone 6 to Magni 2 and the sound is much more neutral and balanced.  Sounds quite good actually.

I only have maybe 5-8 hours on the 650 so far.  Does their sound noticeably change with additional use?  Is there any cheap DAC and/or AMP that is considered an ideal match for them?

Congrats!!

After all of the comparing of the Beyerdynamics and 598's for the last couple of weeks I haven't spent much time with my 650's. Until this afternoon that is. I slipped them on and luxuriated with them for an hour or so. I couldn't believe how excellent and satisfying these phones sound. They are my favorite headphones and can't see myself ever selling them.

They do gradually mature (like a fine wine) over time and they just sound increasingly better as you upgrade your equipment. All you need to do is scroll back 10-20 pages in this thread and you're likely to find great amp (tube, hybrid and ss) recommendations from several respected contributors for the HD650's. Bottlehead Crack, Project Ember and Jotunheim, just to name a few, all seem to be very popular and have terrific price/performance (especially if you're American) qualities.

Welcome to "the club" and enjoy your 650's.

Welcome to the HD-650 club.

As @Tuneslover above noted if you go back a few pages there are quite a few great recommendations for DACs and amps.  I would use a dollar amount rather than cheap since it means different things to different people.  For me a cheap amp would be the Garage 1217 Solstice and Modi2uber or Multibt.  As for ideal I would say the BH Crack for under $750, maybe the Elise for under $1K and either EC Balancing Act or Liquid Glass at the high end but there are quite a few amps between that many like.  The HD-650 will scale with better gear and after hearing them on the Balancing Act and Liquid Glass I have to agree that they will scale but this is so far into diminishing returns only you can make that decision if its worth it.
