Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 245

I've had 5 days with my 650s and the one recurring thought I keep having is "Why did I even bother with the k701?"

I had no idea the 650 would sound this good with accoustic/instrumental tracks from the reviews & impressions I've read.

Had an unexpected expense come up yesterday evening that scrapped my Rev. 2/HE-500 plans.  frown.gif

Bought an HD600 off a local head-fier this morning for the time being.  Compared to what I remember of the HD650s, the HD600s have more of a sense of immediacy.  They are not as laid back.  The tonal balance is somewhere between the K701s and HD650s which makes these cans in my opinion at least, better all rounders.  The soundstaging and imaging is inferior to the HD650s.

Has anyone purchased HD650's from J&R recently for less than $350?

How long did it take with shipping time? I just picked up a pair a few minutes ago. Thanks, colmustard.

It shipped from ny and arrived on the 2nd day. But I live in New England so it might take longer for you.

Very cool, can't wait.

Do any of you guys eq the HD650's? Reason Im asking is... there is nothing above 10khz! I eq'd it using some headroom graphs and its sounds right.

The K701 were tonally f'd, and I'm finding the hd650 are tonally f'd in the opposite direction. So do you guys think by switching to the HD600 am I gonna lose out? The HD650 are miles ahead of the K701's in everything except unnatural soundstage and supposedly the HD600 are not as good as the hd650 but are tonally more balanced. I would ask over at the HD600 impressions thread but I don't think I'd get an unbiased answer :)

thanks

BTW the hd650's have me so enamored that I may forgo the hd600 if the sound quality isn't as good

Just got my 2nd pair of HD650's and am enjoying the sound I missed so much. I deeply regret selling my first pair and going with HD600's that didn't last very long. Then selling the HD600's after all and missing that Sennheiser sound.

Well here I am again, a proud HD650 owner. smily_headphones1.gif They really deserve the best equipment to bring out that magic. beerchug.gif

Gah, just bought an Icon HDP, and this thread is making my desire to space out my purchases for my first real audio setup that much harder...

What's your current setup?

Im using it with the Fun version A with wm8471 and an opa earth.

Most songs sound awesome, but some like landslide - fleetwood mac stevie nicks voice sounds slightly deep. And flying upside down - cold war kids doesn't have that nice cymbal line in the beginning.

That's a tough one.  It's hard to do much better than the Earth op-amp to improve the HD650s top end--they are inherently dark cans.  The HD600 are right in the middle of the K701's and HD650's tonal balance, that's it's one speciality.  The soundstage, separation and imaging are a few shades inferior to both the HD650s and K701s.  The presentation is between the two, not as forward as the K701s, not as laid back as the HD650s.  Timbre and accuracy is quite nice as well, though not as nice as something like the LCD-2s.

The HD650 imaging and seperation are excellent and Im not sure tonal accuracy is a fair trade off. I guess unless I can find a HD600 to try out there will be no way for me to know for sure. Maybe if I just keep listening to HD650's I will get used to the treble roll off?

Oh and don't get me wrong, the HD650's sound incredible out of the Audio-gd Fun. I'm just not used to the sound...

muad, Earth is nicely balanced but it was too detached for my preference so I tended to favour the warmth of the Moon hdam, which brought the vocals forward and added extra layers with the more textured mids it presented. Get the ada4627-1brz in the dac to maintain the same balance as Earth. Its more resolving quality will make the sq more dynamic and the presentation less distant.

Bum deal man. I hope those plans are revived soon.

I've always wondered about the HD600. I considered them before the HD650 but couldn't bring myself to look past that marble finish (shallow I know). I would've probably enjoyed the sound though.
