Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I will warn you, the HD650s will need more current then you Denons currently use.  I'm just hoping you to temper your expectations unless you have an amplifier to do them justice...

True that.  I've already auditioned them on a friend's system, which is identical to mine. The HD650 matches quite well with our ZXR.

Children of the video age: close your eyes and open your ears.....

That's a brilliant song I haven't heard before. I do like Natalie Merchant though. Have you heard her singing Motherland?

We really should keep the HD 650 headphone thread a headphone thread.

We have some very cool threads on HeadFi for music sharing:
Electronic music exchange -  valuable resource for keeping up with the electro scene, and some good oldies too
A Bit of Music and a Bit of Fun - Eclectic variety

Yes, I agree but there's no harm in the odd music link now & again, especially if it's to something the listener thinks particularly suits the sonic signature of the HD 650.

Awesome song and album, but I heard it on a different HP, so I'd better not comment

Back to 650 it is. Is there an easy way to pry off the outer grill? In case dust/debris get thru the grill holes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=82&v=mBpic9jbjzs   easy as cooking cup noodles.

Took the plunge. My 650s will arrive in about 5 days. Looking forward to excellent sound!

already 3 thumbs up when it's utter nonsense. scepticism really isn't your thing guys ^_^.
just knowing that lower impedance(the rest being equal) will let more current flow,  should have made you suspicious, it certainly did for me.

if innerfidelity's PDFs contain no mistake, and I didn't multifail typing on windowzzz calculator while eating pringles, then they read:

HD650

Volts RMS required to reach 90dB SPL: 0.205 Vrms
Impedance @ 1kHz: 320 Ohms
Power Needed for 90d BSPL 0.13 mW

the voltage was as mentioned 0.205V, I=P/U=0.00013/0.205=0.0006341A
so the amp provided 0.635mA at 90db into that one hd650. and that's what current is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AH-D5000

Volts RMS required to reach 90dB SPL: 0.082 Vrms
Impedance @ 1kHz: 25 Ohms
Power Needed for 90d BSPL 0.27 mW

doing the same with this one, I=0.00024/0.082=0.002927A
the amp had to feed 2.9mA to drive that headphone to 90db  (takes less voltage but uses more power, it was obvious current would be bigger here)
that's more than 4 times the current used to drive the hd650 at the same loudness.

ok thanks bye.

For anyone else using a tube amp: Do you sometimes get this weird buzzing sound? I've been having these recently. Not sure if it's the amp, headphones, or DAC. Pretty sure it's either the tubes or the DAC, the DAC is quite old.

Tubes, my hunch. Then amp.
All plugged into a power filtration strip?

You might want to clean the pins on the tube with Deoxit (red cleaner), I've found that over time the pins will develop some corrosion so it may be the cause of the buzzing, good luck.
