Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

In the 70's and 80's it was like pulling teeth to get a customer to spend $ on a phono cartridge. But they wanted to spend $ on "lotsa watts" or huge woofers. The resulting systems were not satisfying in the long term.

So now the dac is the "least important" component? Redux.

Quality digital files, delivered with as little damage as possible (thanks Krutsch) to a very good dac, is the foundation of a system with a realistic musical presentation. Downstream components (amps and headphones) can change the personality of a system in exciting and fun ways, but can never "correct or repair" damage done upstream.

And of course HD650s are transparent enough to easily reveal Dac differences.

Question to all 650 owners. Do you think a well done paint job to the 650's would increase, decrease or have no effect to the resale value ?

I believe Colorware HD800s actually sell for less then standard stock variants, and you pay the premium for the uniqueness.  I'd only paint the HD650 for yourself, not for resale value....

My friend is amazing @ painting and @ painting headphones. I'm thinking about getting a 3.5mm cable and also pondering if I want them colored or not. I wouldn't do a crazy color like red/orange etc. I'd go with something classic like pitch black, silver or maybe even a copper.

I love to paint them to match these, but I know I'd screw it up and hate myself lol. I'm too old to walk about with gold headphones. Just not pimpin' enough.
