I took advantage of this last night.  I've been hemming and hawing about what to get as this will be my first set of headphones.  This deal did me in.

I'm thinking that it may have been sarcasm. Js.

I don't understand what people are talking about , when they say the 650's are "veiled". Could it be they're treble and micro-detail addicts? Because I don't hear it at all. Lol

You don't hear it because it's veiled! /s

Agreed. Those people who complain about a 'veil' are simply used to a more treble-emphasized sound.

Does ANYONE know why Sennheiser headphones have been going on sale so much? These prices are unbelievable. Probably the best we've seen in years, no?

Excellent first choice!  Welcome to the club!

Just make sure to pair them with a decent amp so you can hear them at their best.

Well, when compared to even Sennheiser's own HD700 and HD800, the HD650 definitely sounds softer in the mids and treble, and this is why some consider them to sound "veiled".

But this would only be realized in direct side-by-side comparison with another headphone.

I can't imagine anyone would think they sound obviously "veiled" when listening to and enjoying them on their own.

To get a cheap version of a Sennheiser, you could always buy a Grado (cheaper in USA) and stuff pillows in the ear cups. Instant Sennheiser. 😳

Sorry, Christmas is creeping in. mad.gif

 ... you would also have to stuff pillows under the headband to avoid the Grado discomfort (I love my RS2i cans, but they are uncomfortable to wear, long-term).
