these are my genres

electro ,classical, jazz, brit pop, rock, dubstep, pop and easy.

Therefore i would like them to have a good clear sound with rich bass and nice clarity, but not too dark more bright and fun.

these will only be used for listening to music.

I think I will do better with closed back headphones because of some noisy locations but overall for at home use.

here are some brands i am considering

Beyerdynamic

Denon

Sennheiser

AKG

Shure

Grado

I am open to other brands too...

I think i should get the denon ah d600, not sure or the sennheiser hd 650

Plus I get better dynamics especially at lower volume where I spend most of my time listening.

Welcome Matt to the balanced Senns! :D Been patiently waiting for this. Congrats on the HD800 btw... I would love to have some serious head time with a balanced HD800. I just never stepped to it cause I was worried the MJ+Gungnir combo would be too aggressive for it. Perhaps when my friend gets around to re-terminating his HD800 I'll be able to borrow it .

One thing though, I'm going to drive them with HDVA600, do you guys think I would be missing a lot if I decided to stick with its stock, SE cable?

imho, the stock SE cable will not allow your 650 to sound its best. I switched out to a bal silver OCC cable a month after acquiring the 650. Especially as I am hi-end all the way to my amp (BHA-1). In short, if your amp is v.g., the stock SE may act as a bottleneck for SQ. It isn't terrible, but you will be craving for better SQ before long.

just imho -- there are many who don't believe in after-market cabling, so fire away.

I'm using a Norne Skoll balanced cable for my HD800, and IMHO I can't distinguish any difference between it and the Alo Green Line cable and Sennheiser's own CH800S balanced cable. The only difference I can hear is the difference between SE and XLR. But yeah, I guess if I like the HD650 very much I would get a cable for the HD650 as well.

I have both hp's and find them to be good complements. Get the balanced cable for the 650 for that amp. You can reterminate the stock cable if you want for a few bucks.

I am too lazy for any DIY mate :p

Have you actually tried LCD-2 for prolonged periods of time? I don't have any issues with the long term comfort, sure the weight is there, but they disappear for me once the music starts playing.

Otherwise you can't really go wrong with HD650 route. The sound signature is very, very similar to LCD-2.

I tried to wear them for 5 songs during a meet, and I gave up even before the end of the third song. Maybe I am just too used to the comfort of the HD800, but the pressure on the top of my head from the Audez'e is just too heavy for me to ignore.

And yeah, I have compared few cans to the LCD-2 and IMO the HD650 is the closest. Sure, it is not as refined as the LCD-2, but personally I prioritize comfort before SQ.

Music at the end of the day is about enjoyment. If you can't get comfortable wearing a pair of cans, then I can completely see prioritizing comfort over SQ. Good for you, 62ohm.

I just wish the ear cups were a bit deeper and bigger like the HD700/800 then. I hardly use my 600/650 as a result.

agreed with others, this is lazy marketing at it's best, just like the guy "dressed" as a scientist in some shampoo commercial.

some give a limit like when the sound is  a few  DB below compared to 1khz. but other manufacturers just write a value, as long as there is "something"  going on at that frequency, and don't care if the something is 90% distortion and sounds 80db below the 1khz sound.

you can just never rely on those manufacturer's specs, most just write 20hz-20khz like good boys and don't care at all.

The nad viso does sound slightly better than the momentum (I've owned both) but it's so ugly and looks so stupid when on I could never recommend it for portable use. Honestly it's that stupid looking. If you don't mind being pointed and laughed at then get the viso otherwise take a slight hit in sq and instead you will probably have a conversation with a stranger about how cool your headphones are.
