The A2 is very clean sounding with a slightly warm tilt...just a touch. I like the versatility of the gain switch and pre-amp. Very well built and a bargain at $250.

You asked Matt, But Ill give my opinion if you do not mind:

The M-stage was a bit dark and intimate with the HD650.(I am a tube guy, the M-stage sounds a bit tube-like without the tube harmonics so......)

The O2 is thin and lifeless with them(yeah "you don't like neutrality", no, I like soul in my music), but I do like the O2 with some cans (D7k, Kenwood KH-1000)

The Asgard was a good mix between  the two.

Chord Hugo is a great pairing with HD650s. Very musical and transparent. Clear highs, mids and strong hitting bass.  I recommend it to anyone with enough budget. I think this is the best I've heard HD650s.

I'll challenge your Chord Hugo with the Crack anytime for the 650 and at a fraction of the cost. :veryevil:

I challenge you all with O2 /odac. Sennheiser didn't develop the worlds best dynamic headphones with added distortion in mind.

In this case, I challenge you with the Dragonfly.

I'll throw my HiFi-M8 in the mix on this one.  Same price as a Crack, includes a DAC.....

(I don't actually think its superior, but that doesn't mean it still ain't awesome-sauce....)

It would seem James and I were born with the same logic genes.

I'm with you Matt, Crack is an outstanding amplifier with HD650. It's seems ironic HD650 with its warm and tubey sounding pairs amazingly well with an euphonic characteristic of Crack, in a nutshell: Warmness + Euphonia = WIN, isn't it?

You have to love this thread, we can all disagree and still get along.

That being said, I throw a dark-horse into the competition. The Fosgate Signature is absolutely  unreal with the HD650/800. It has the most realistic soundstage I have ever heard, added bass boost (if so desired) that does not infringe on the mids and highs and has a cross-feed circuit as well. By far the best amp I have yet to hear(and I am fickle and change gear often).

In that case I will throw in the Project Ember with a cv2024 Mullard 12at7 tube and the Emotiva xdr-2

Wait a minute!! Somehow you guys have completely misinterpreted my original post. No where did I say, "throw you favorite bargain amp for the 650 into the ring." Nope, didn't say that at. I really meant to give a definitive, end game, bargain 650 amp and have that be the end of the discussion. :p
