Hi there...I am about to join the hd650 community (they are in the mail) and I super pumped. Quick questions for the hd650 veterans out there...

Which DIY amp works best with these headphones? I don't think I am confident enough to try a B22, but I would consider anything less complicated/cheaper than that (M^3, mini^3, PPA, Pineta, LISA III, Millet Hybrid MAX, to name a few). Thanks for the input!

Well, the LISA III is astounding, no doubt. Brings the HD650 to life compared to some other amps I've tried.

Might be worth having a look at the Darkvoice 332 threads . Some great reports of synergy with the HD650's with this tube amp . Haven't heard it myself, but it really does seem to bring out the best in the 650's by all accounts.

Definitely check out the DV332 threads - you can't go wrong!

Ohhhh... Ahhhh... These HD650+Zu sounds fantastic. They almost replicate the ER4S+APureSound sound, which I think is sublime through almost any amp source.

The original owner had ~100 hours of burn in on it. I was wondering how many more until ultimate 650 bliss? Some people say 200->300 hours total--true?

I bought mines for $320 w/ shipping from Amazon late last month (Dec 24). Though, I haven't seen deals that low lately, on Amazon at least.

I love my HD-650s and they really excel on my Little-Dot Headphone Amps!
The entire MK series at Little-Dot were designed with the HD-650 in mind, and it really shows. I decided to give my HD-650s a little love, so I ordered new pads and a new cable for them.

It just feels good to give something back!

The lowest I've seen lately is $315 from a seller at eBay. He does, however, want about $25 to ship them. If you really want to save a few bucks, buy them used. They come up every now and then, but go fast.

I've been developing a new appreciation for the HD-650 since I got the Zana. The HD-650 really does scale with better amplification. I used to think the bass was a little too thick and sloppy. Turned out I just wasn't amplifying it as it needed. More power and damping turned this into a great headphone. Did the same with the K-701, but I won't threadjack with that story.

Well, the HD-650 (and 580,600) are very good comfort wise. Falling asleep with them on is rather normal, and this says volumes about proper fit. Excellent sound and proper fit is the true basis of a great headphone. The other headphones, well, they have one thing or another lacking. Some people tolerate these things better than others. Sell what you no longer use to those people, because they are looking for a good deal like everyone else. In the end, everyone wins!
