So you're saying there's a chance!?!

JK... I'm just very curious about the HD650 vs. my HE500. The new HE560 are still in the running too though. Just have to wait for HiFiMan to finish up a 'real' final design.

:L3000:  Yes... there's a chance...

I really wanted to consider the HE500 and am hoping to listen to them at an upcoming meet.  But I came to the conclusion that the HD 650 is sort of a head-fi rite of passage and I wanted to experience them over time.

That and I don't really have a headphone amp for the HE500s, so I am going to wait until I can upgrade my amp at the same time.

Ok.  I believe in amps now.  I've only played my HD650's through my Dragonfly or my NuForce Icon until now.  I just plugged my MacBook through the Dragonfly into my Onkyo HT-RC260 home theater receiver and what a difference!  This is bad.  Now I need to invest more into this crazy hobby that my wife totally doesn't understand.  I can also now clearly hear the difference from an iTunes track and a lossless CD rip.  So now I need to decide what amp to get, and how to make it look like something unassuming so the wife doesn't notice it. :)

Always use a secrete pp account. Tell someone "gave" it to you or better yet that you built it yourself. ;)  Always fly under the radar.

There are many here that are thinking the same exact thing.  I haven't jumped into desktop rigs because I don't want the hassle from a spouse that doesn't get my hobby.  But she has no issues with he 2 cabinets full of Precious Moments figures....

Yeah, or how about money spent on laser treatments, mani/pedi, facials, massage, etc... It's all good, and it's a free country brother, but I'm confident that she's spent more on that stuff than I've spent on the gear in my sig.

There is a listing on Audiomart for a pair of HD650's for $350.00, if anybody is interested.

I finally started listening to a little bit of jazz on the 650's. Two thumbs up! They sure handle 'busy' music very well and effortlessly with a very smooth fluidity.

Listening to Volto! Incitare. Danny's drumming is represented perfectly, guitars and keyboard are separated from each other, and I can hear the low root notes (vs harmonics.. not sure if 'root' is the correct word) of the bass easily :D

edit: One thing I'm beginning to notice is that listening to the 650's is like having the whole entire band right in front of my face which is odd if I think about it too much. Almost like I'm standing in front of the drummer.

A big thumbs up! Listen to Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers, "Moanan' ", a great tune!

I might try these out with an amp. And if you don't have an amp how do they sound?

These babies need some help to really open up.  If I'm playing directly from a DAP or Laptop, I will reach for my HD25s or DT1350s.

I'm planning to sell a custom 12 foot silver poison toxic cable for HD650/600/580

My accounts only 27 days old, haha, so PM me if you're interested and we might be able to make a deal. They sound really great with HD650s
