^ Thanks for the info.  I will check this DAC out, interesting.

I was actually referring to this one http://eeaudio.com/eeaudio_20102.htm

Have you done a full review and comparison anywhere? How specifically does it "kill" the DACmagic?

For the asking price there really is nothing to lose - like I said, at the moment, I slightly prefer it over the Bryston DAC which is a universally acclaimed hi-end DAC.

I'm sorry quite a begginer here but...

I want to see if I can get a HD650 setup that will be within my budget which is more or less $500, that's after buy a used pair of HD650 ~$250 or less, and about $250 or so on the amp.

I will be using the headphones at home only, playing through my laptop and monitor. I know that the Headstage Arrow 12HE is a good option but I really don't need a "portable" amp. Since size is not the issue what is the cheapest, but most reliable option, in terms of amp that will satisfy my needs? (remember I will mostly using this through my laptop which doesn't have a spectatular sound card). Also, besides amp and headphones, is there another piece I need to buy? It seems all the set ups consist of three parts... lots of talk about a "DAC" that's confusing me.

I just wanted to add to this thread that the HD650 sounds better than I have ever heard them before on the Meier Concerto. I do not know if it is the balanced ground in the Concerto but my way old HD650 has for sure experienced a revival after I got my Concerto. I was going to buy the HD800 but I will postpone that for a while to stay with the HD650 and enjoy them first.

Thanks!

Why should one get criticized for being enthusiastic? I thought this was one of the nice forums where people didn't pick on each other...

Great to hear! What was your HD650-amp before Meier?

Anyone able to comment on the HD650 with the MAD Ear+ HD? I am considering getting this amp for it's synergy with the RS1 but was hoping it did swimmingly with the HD650 aswell. Thanks!

I used to have the LISA III as my desktop amplifier.... Even though the LISA III is a fantastic amp it can not measure up with the Concerto.

You misunderstood my post. I cautioned everyone in general to not be overly rash with the bending or the plastic headband could snap.

I really liked the sound of my old HD 650 with the Burson HA 160. I thought that ss amp helped the sound out for me, bringing out more highs and bringing frequencies closer to balance.

I'm thinking about giving up my chase of high end gear and going back to my favorite old headphone, the HD650 =]

Does anyone know the cheapest price to get these at?  I'm thinking about calling J&R, is there a price I should shoot for?
