I ended up with Ms-Pros, surprisingly similar in sound, just a bit more neutral, and a bit more detailed. Its more like moving from the back of the auditorium to the middle bringing you that bit closer to the music.

... same goes for the darkvoice 337 with output transformers, the sub bass extension is insane.  Deeper than any of my other cans.  Surprisingly I have turn the volume down a little when I go from the K701 to the HD650.  I always thought the 701 would be easier to drive at 65 ohms... weird.

Floyd DSOTM swirling around in my head as I type this..... Whhhoaaaah!!

I went with the T1's, I wasn't looking to upgrade, but was offered a used mint condition T1 at a price I could not say no to, so a impulse buy on my part, I had the BH Crack on order at the time for my 650's and there was some buzz going on about how well the T1's paired with the Crack at the time which was the tipping point, so I snapped them up quick.

All the positive comments about the pairing are spot on both phones have a very good synergy with the Crack.

If you like the 650 chances are you will love the T1's but don't expect them to wow you with a quick listen.

I need to give Dark Side of the Moon a go with the HD650.......I have been listening to lots of Bonamassa, as I am putting together his whole library at this time....dude's guitar playing is just flat out mesmerizing to me.

I see you have the Lyr also.  I have a Lyr and love it... but would be open to getting a BHC if they're really that much better for the HD650's than the Lyr.

Let me know... my trigger finger is itching :)

I have the lyr. Get the crack and you won't be sorry. The only downside to the crack is that they are really only meant for a certain type of hp...most of Senn's and some Beyers. The lyr will work for many hp's.

I have a friend that has the bhc with out the upgrades, he asked me to bring my Ember over to compare.  I brought my Ember over to his place and my sennshd650's.  I just finished burning in a Tungram E80CC tube, similar to a 12au7, and we spent the next two and a half hours going back and forth between his bhc and my Ember, and he was very impressed with the Ember.  He has HE 500's and thought they were the top of the heap, until he heard the combo of the Sennheiser HD650's and the Ember.  He tried all kinds of music with the setups, trying to find the bhc's better in some way but could not.  We like them both, but the combnation of the Sennheiser hd650's and Ember sold him.   He is going to purchase an Ember next month and is looking to find a pair of used he 650's as well.  He is going to keep the he 500's for now, and try them when the new Ember gets to him.  He is going the prebuilt route as his soldering skills are not the best, for $324.00 he said it was worth it.  Ember being a Hybrid amp adds to the flexibility, plenty of power and being able to set different resistances for different headphones is another plus.  And for you nay sayers, they are  coming out with a solid state version to satisfy that group, these amps are really coming in to their own.  So easy to tube roll with them and the small footprint makes the ideal for the desktop.  Plus they look a little more modern than the bhc that to me looks like something left over from the sixties. Oversize, point to point wiring, been there as a tech in the Navy.  Modern circuitry is far superior, in my opinion.  Give them a look, http://garage1217.com/garage1217_diy_tube_headphone_amplifiers_006.htm this link is for the in house build, kits are also availably.

Yes I agree , SS's in general are the ones I love , I had tried the LBCs a long time ago at my Uncle's Audiophile escritoire

I can't wait to get the Soloist SL's next month

It's a painful wait, but it will be worth it.

Yup... the HD650 adds a warm, wooly character, and it takes the edges off a lot of recordings.  Its a good complimentary can to my K701, RS1, A250.  I have to watch out with volume settings,  being that these are a more laid back sound and one can unknowingly turn up the volume to compensate.  The image and soundstage is not as vast and layered as the K701 though.  So thats kind of a bummer, but I knew this already.  I can't tell if its the 701 adding something to the image, or its the K701 detail resolution allowing the ambience and space in the recording to show (I suspect its a little both).  My 650 pads are worn and soggy though, so it might be time for a replacement.  That could be compressing the image inwards a bit.

I am using the stock 650 cable and HD600 outer grille cups... fwiw.

Cool I'll have to look into that too... Another one for you to check out is Dire straits, Brothers in Arms.  IMHO you could build an entire guitar-centric music collection around Gilmour and Knopfler... outstanding players, in a less is more kind of way.

The 650 responds very well to transformer coupling in both our amps.  I did not think they would be this efficient and easy to drive for my DV337.  They present a resulting impedance in the ~thousands of ohms to the 6AS7G tubes, through the transformers I am using.  I am finding with my amps that tube harmonic distortion is heavily dependent on the impedance load presented to the tubes.  My amps are much cleaner, and more "dry" sounding through OTs.  The Earmax I think is clean to a fault with OTs.  I think the Earmax circuit is a simple one, that relies heavily on even order harmonics to create the overall sensation of warmth.
