SS amps is hard to beat with hd650. I prefer my Lehmann black cube in SE mode, over my balanced tube amp.

I kind of want to try the BHC...but I must tell you, the synergy with the Mad Ear+HD is off the hook  :D

Did you guys know Axel Grier or whatever, the guy responsible for the HD800 was asked HD650 or HD600.  His response seems to mirror my experience.  Something along the lines of - Both are great, depends on the recording...but he finds himself reaching more often for the HD650.  And it seems to me more recordings are using a compensation more like the HD650.

I have been reading tons of material about how well tube amps complete the union with the 650.  Have narrowed down to Schiit Valhalla.  My question is - am I really going to experience a wow factor difference before i drop down the 400 bucks?  All views and as many as possible welcome.  Thanks and happy listening!  Chris.

I have not heard any better amp for the 650 than the Bottle Crack. If you have no diy skill, I'd find someone who does and ask them to build it for you. That's what I did.

I was just on the Bottlehead site, and noticed their newly-introduced headphone. Have I completely missed the boat on these, or are they brand new?

There has been a small buzz for a few weeks. Honestly, I don't have much interest in them. I believe that simply a modified monoprice hp.

They are, and the price looks a little steep for that, but I might try them out if they get decent reviews. I trust BH to not screw us over on pricing, so it must be worth something.

I really don't think Bottelhead could make enough of an improvement to justify triple the price of these headphones. I mean you can get them for 30.00 bucks on Amazon.

Um...look at what Mr. Speakers and others have done with the t50rp. ;)

That being said, they are not for me.

Has anyone here successfully upgraded FROM hd-650's?  If so, what did you end up with?

I see you have the Lyr also.  I have a Lyr and love it... but would be open to getting a BHC if they're really that much better for the HD650's than the Lyr.

Let me know... my trigger finger is itching :)

happy with them?  also, aren't those pretty hard to drive?  what are you driving them with?

since they're so cheap, I picked up some HE-400's and am unhappy with them.  the treble sounds like it's echo'ing in side the cup, like i'm wearing a plastic football helmet or something.  I know they're known to be pretty colored, so that probably has a lot to do with it

Just trust Matt and go with it =P. My friend has both lyr and BHC... after some listening at his place... BHC wins hands down in ALL respects.

Very happy with them. Loads of separation and clarity, very nice bass (not over emphasized but very smooth, tight, and well extended), the sort of thick mids that I like in a headphone (kinda reminds me of the 650s at times), and a good amount of treble that's nice and sparkly without being bright at all. I'd say they're very flat. Nothing is emphasized at all.

They are tricky to drive. I'm using a Temple Audio Bantam Gold which is a 25 WPC speaker amp. It also works very nicely with the 650s. Basically the process is you get a balanced cable and an xlr to speaker taps adapter and then hook it up directly to the speaker taps.
