I have heard that both the LCD2's and T1's with some batches or releases had some issues. Is there a way to avoid those (sorry I can't recall what the specific issues were).

Buy them new...that way you know you got the batch with the most manufacturing experience.

I guess I'd say the 650's hit the sweet spot in it's pricerange and even reasonably above it, but I presume there must be a HP at the $1000-1300 that is just as capable across a a large group of music genres? I don't want anything massively difficult to drive. I have a O2 Amp, and Odac, and also a crackamp (about to install the speedball upgrade).
HD800 all the way.

I would say save your cash and spend $100 on modding your Crack you wont believe the difference it makes with the 650's listening to mine now. :smile_phones:

Surprised at this recommendation. Last night I got to hear the HD800's on a $2500 amp, and there were some tracks that bought the hair on my neck up (remastered live dire straits), but equally some tracks which sound good, on almost all the other headphones I tried (Including the HE-6), it sounded HORRIBLE.  The guitars sounded like someone was rubbing cymbals together in the background etc. I was blown away by classical music, but rock just lacked something I would call.... Impact? It was like listening to the tracks from outside the stadium. Obviously sound is subjective...

I haven't tried them with Crack

Food for thought

Valab 23 step ladder Attenuator $30

JFX Premium Metallized Polypropylene Film Capacitors 100uf 250v 2 x $32

JFX Premium Metallized Polypropylene Film Capacitors 2.2uf 250v 1 x $3

Russian K72P6 Teflon bypass capacitor  (silver one) 0.056uf $3

The results are very much grin inducing.

Some further details of the mods here

Yeah, the HD800 patrol loiters the forum and misguides the inexperienced.

Hi There!

Don't get me wrong, they did sound amazing, just I found, not particularly engaging for pop/rock music. Lyrics were fantastic, instruments sounded further away than I would have thought.

Yeah, but it seems to be the answer to all the questions.  It is a good headphone...but I think it is a very specific requirement for sound that the general populace does not adhere to.

Hi There.

Looks amazing, but without step by step idiot proof instructions I don't think I'd be confident to try that, I have no real electronics knowledge and I still can't track down a particular issue I have with static on my crack amp as it is.

Assuming that amp was solid state they would sound the same on the O2. They are windows into the recording so they do have that effect. I use my 650s for some of my favourite albums because the 800s show them for what they are. For good recordings I can't imagine anything sounding better than the 800s, the presentation can be mesmerising! For everything else there is the 650s .

I'm considering a BH crack to see what the coloured tube sound is all about . I admit I strive for clean accurate playback system to capture the original recording, but...., I prefer a warmer sounding recording so I think tubes will tilt my music collection to my preference. This means I can have solid state for transparency and tubes for personal preference. My only concern about the BH is that maybe the love for it's 'sound' is more of a bias because you personally made it? It's like your baby ? Is the 'synergy' really as dramatic as has been described or is it an emotional reaction to something you have built? This is a genuine thought process please don't read this the wrong way.
James.

I don't own the crack.  From my observations, the Cracks initial design, was in fact centered around the HD600/650 - so no surprises if it gets brought up a lot in the thread for a headphone it was designed for.
