I see. Would you compare the T1 to the HD650 on the Crack?

No with the Crack the performance of the T1 is at a different level sonically to the HD650's. The Senns try hard but cannot match the speed, dynamics, neutrality and resolution of the T1's which are at a different level sonically. Considering the price difference this should be expected.

Although there is fantastic synergy with the BHC+HD650 the BHC is actually capable of more sonically than the HD650's can deliver. This is why their are quiet a few T1 and HD800 owners who are very happy with the combination as well.

They both have their own signatures and complement one another each brings its own strengths and flavour I use both phones regularly depending what I plan to listen to. My other half prefers to listen with the HD650's which are great for relaxing with. If you like the HD650's chances are good you will love the T1's, I did.

Its worth noting that both phones can sound very ordinary if not amped properly, but get it right and they are simply an amazing pair of headphones.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. It's really worth to try the BHC again. I've just heard the stock BHC with the HD700 last year for around 10 minutes.

^^ I appreciate your point. And you're right, I do sometimes let my enthusiasm get the better of me when I experience something special in this hobby. The truth is though, the 650/crack actually is better than the hd800 and a good amp/dac for me. While the hd800 certainly offers a more technically advanced product than the he650, but the 800 never was able to move me emotionally and allow me to connect to the music the way that I have with 650/c.

I stayed away from the 650 for about three years because of the reputation is has for being slow and mid bass centric and of course....dark and veiled. Ug!! When I finally put them on for the first time I knew that I had something special. For me, it all comes down to tone, mostly. Do voices sound real? Do instruments sound accurate and natural. I don't sing but I play three instruments and around musicians for much of my adult life. I'm always looking to hear that natural tone when I sit down to listen to hp's and music.

I don't want to put anyone off the hd800. It's capabilities are certainly without question. I just don't connect to it the same way that I can with the 650. The 650/c is end game for me. I have even lost my enthusiasm for the the new hifiman offerings because of this combo. I would encourage those who like the 650 or are curious to try it on the crack if you get the chance.

Excellent post.  I agree.  I paid full recommended retail over the counter for Denon D7000s in australia - that is cash $2300...I was rapt with my purchase...until in due time, that slowly sinking feeling that I have to admit to myself, I much preferred my SET driven HD650.

I also agree, that if you like the HD650 - the T1 will be an upgrade with similar tonality, and it can also be driven by the crack.  But if the HD650 tone hits the spot...there is nothing that does what the HD650 can do for tone.

This is something that is often overlooked, human voices don't wow you, every time you hear them. Neither does a guitar or drum etc etc they just sound like drums, guitars and voices. This I feel is why so many don't get the T1's, a quick listen will give no wow factor simply because they are not voiced for wow factor, but for neutrality and naturalness. It takes time to sink in then bam it hits you and you realise just how good they are at conveying all those extra subtle nuances and variation in color, tone and expression that voice and instruments have that in everyday life we pay no real attention to because its just the way things sound.

+1 The BHC & HD650's have a certain way of conveying emotion I have not experienced with other phones. I can get goose bumps listening to some tracks.

I'm sure this has been asked a few times throughout this thread but I'm having trouble wading through it. Where can I get a decent price on some HD 650s? I'd normally go straight to Amazon but it looks like their prices fluctuate crazily (350 - 500 in the past few months, currently stuck at 500) and I'd rather not wait too long to buy some. I'm in the US and shipping speed isn't a big issue. Thanks :)

Apparently Sennheiser impose a minimum price so it's difficult for dealers to be competitive , if you talk to them you might be able to negotiate something. It's always worked for me .

I second Razordog. Got my HD650 for $100 off.

I agree 100% but will add that there are other simple, inexpensive single ended amps that will also make you HD600/650 sing.

This is what I enjoy with my HD600 and the combo beats every dynamic pairing I have heard, HD800 included.

(what this amp is is not important...my point is that one can achieve amazing results with the HD600/650 and any number of well designed amps for a lot less cheddar than the HD800 alone.)

I'd prefer the Crack/HD650 over an HD800 that's paired with most $500-$700 amps (outside of the Crack)
M-Stage $280
