For me HD700 and 800 have bass as good as HD650 but have better instrument separation and details retrieval plus wide soundstage then HD650

Probably a long shot, but a rev.1 HE-400 might be what you're looking for.  You would have to look in the classifieds and ask which revision the seller has.  I believe the rev. 1 has black plastic on the inside covering the drivers.  To get the bass extension of the LCD-2 you pretty much need an orthodynamic headphone.

bass of the 700 and the 800, well, they're not really lacking but not really extended or as punchy it seems like to me.

I've always used Vali with the 650, but recently have changed to the Magni, and was very surprised how much more I like it. Vali's warmth and tube-like character further enhances 650's already warm sounding signature, but at the same time exaggerates it too much, almost lulling me to sleep. The Magni compensates 650 with more of it's neutral-brightish sounding tone, more speedy character and even a larger soundstage. It doesn't make the 650 sound as confined as it already sounds and kind of "opens" your eyes as you listen, almost waking you up more than putting you to sleep. Both has its uses and Vali doesn't completely blow Magni away with the 650, more of a preference than anything else I suppose. I were there's an amp that combines these best features of both Vali and Magni.

That's y I am using a silver plated copper cable on the hd650...
It's like a hd600 with more bass...or a more alert hd650.tongue.gif

Hmmm...I m no scientist, but that's db..as in loudness?
To my ears the SPc is my cure to the sound quality..not loudness per se.

Many who owned the hd600 just wanted abit more bass...after awhile.
Some who owned the hd650 wanted tighter bass and clearer highs,
Somewhere along those lines... Some fine tuning would make either cans quite perfect.
Switching to a totally diff can , takes the game too far off for me.

I sold my hd600 n kept this hd650/SPc cable...my ear my taste of cos.

Between the HD650 and HD600 which sounds the most realistic? Assume both are amped with the BHC and have a good DAC.

BeyerT1 is awesome but expensive.

The ATH W1000x would be worth considering it is very good, not so well know on head-fi.  $419.00 on Amazon it is low impedance so much easier to drive.

What amp are you using to drive the 650's? This might be hampering the performance of your HD650's if its not the best of matches. The 650s scale very well and if your not driving them adequately then a switch to say T1 with the same amp could be very disappointing. Some thought on amp matching is required for the higher impedance cans to perform at their best. There is quiet a difference in performance if miss matched.

The bass extension on the W1000x is really bad, for someone who likes the LCD2 sound signature, IMO.

True I found mine tightened up over time, LCD2 is 3 times the price I would hope they are in a different class.

I do prefer the speed and control of the T1 for my bass compared to other phones I have tried.

Still if not amped properly both T1 and HD650 can sound linear and recessed, texture, body, dynamics, headroom is lost though they still may sound ok they are capable of very much more when well matched.

At last I received my used HD650s. They are the older revision and badly need earpads and a new earband, but other than that they are excellent. I hooked them up to a Micromega Myzic/Mydac combo that I got on loan and the sound is excellent. I have been reading about the treatment female voices get, but was not prepared for what I heard. I am really happy with my choice!

Today I will be trying them out with the Musical Fidelity X-Can V8+X-PSU (I believe the Myzic was not even complete broken in). I am really curious. Now to the questions:

i) How hard it is to replace the headband (mine came with the original completely removed and have an ugly looking and poorly fitting (although rather comfortable) leatherette one

ii) What do you think about the Aune T1/HD650 combo?
