HD 650 with TotalBithead/iBasso D1

Hi all!
I am a newbie here and this would be my first can. I was wondering if anyone use a Total Bithead or an iBasso D1 with their HD 650. I was originally looking to go with the HD595 but changed my mind to a HD 650 after reading a lot of threads in this forum. Also, for awhile, I may even not be able to buy an amp and would have to use the cans with an el-cheapo receiver! When I do get nuff moolah for the amps, it would either be the Total BitHead or the D1. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions on this.

Cheers!

Great choice!

I don't think any would argue that the D1 isn't superior...but you can still enjoy them with el-cheapo for now.

My HD650 sounds good out of the heaphone out built into my SCD-XA777ES. But it is better with the Perreaux SXH1 and much, much better with a tube-rolled WA6 from Woo Audio. With all three sources, the virtues of the headphones are worthwhile.

Yes? How's about a Marantz PM66se K1? I'm hoping this combination will overcome my long-held lack of enthusiasm for the 650.

I love my HD650... I think I made the right choice. I will upgrade my amp to Opera soon... then I will be heaven...

BTW, what is 'balancing' the headphone and how does that affect the SQ?

I've heard from someone with a balanced 650 setup that it improves SQ by reducing noise..but balanced setup I believe requires a "balanced" source AND amp, which makes it $$$$

he suggested a benchmark DAC, which when searched, came up with a 750 used price...yeah i can't justify that to the wife lol

I've had my HD650 for about 3 months now...about a perfect a phone as I've ever had (which, agreed my history is a tad limited...but I have owned phones like the RS-1). I currently use a HR Micro amp to feed it, my sources being a 5G ipod and a HT Omega Claro Plus soundcard. One of the things that does not get said enough imo is that watching DVD's on my PC with these are simply amazing, and they also do a great job when gaming.

Hi. I am from Malaysia as well. I have been owning the hd650 for almost 2 years, and still like it especially after acquired equinox cable. It is paired with a ppav2 with opa627 and connected to a zhaolu D2 modded with 627 as well. Most of the time i listen to classical and i feel orchestra and symphony sounds great with 650, however, for concerto, i still prefer my other setup of 701 with M^3 with ad8610.

However, at this moment still undecided whether to get benchmark dac1 or lavry da10 for the 650 setup. been reading a few reviews, but would like to hear from somebody who had listened to dac1 or lavry through ppav2 > 650 with equinox.

Thanks Dane! Say, do you visit other audio forums on the web, for instance av123.com by any chance? Also, is there any good tube-based headphone amp for about $500 that would be a good match for the HD650's? I'm trying to see if there's one that would match the cans better than the D1, I just 'might' try saving up for it. Thanks again folks!

Probably because of the good amp needed and the aftermarket cable to make it shine.

One of the myths is the boomy bass; if the amp is up to notch it's fast, has drive and is as tight as it gets with a full body.

If you have a boomy bass, it's either the source or the amp.

The other one is the veil; wich veil?

Again, if the source and amp are up to notch, the hd650 will deliver and give alot of more expensive headphones a run for their money!

Yes...without a doubt. They are almost as good as the L3000 out of my SDS.

Are these things supposed to have more upper low slam than let's say.. MS-1?

Might be me being used to speakers but 'full bodied' isn't exactly what comes to mind?

HD580 stamp on the membrane, but that was more or less confirmed not to be the issue.

Hi,

Not av123.com. S&V is my only other hang out...but not enough HP junkies there

The tube amp that I use was $480 IIRC...the Woo Audio 3. There are several good tube amps for $500 or less but I've not been paying too much attention to this subject because I have no plans to upgrade...which is simply amazing for me.

I've heard the HD 650 with some amps costing much more and they sounded amazing but out of my budget. I also enjoy my 650 with a balanced cable connected to a PreSonus Central Station which is a solid state amp & DAC.

I like the 650 sound sig in general but I like change which is where my other cans come in. For me the 650 sounds very good with my (now only ONE!) portable amp...but I'm easy to please.

I only wish my HD650 has more hights.
