Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 995

This is my comment to Flysweep via pm:

"The crack is undeniably the best pairing for the 650. The lyr has dynamics and punch, but honestly it comes off as brutish and clumsy compared to the crack. The hair on my arms stood up when I cued up my playlist of test tracks. I'm done looking period. The crack is it."

I do still have affection for the lyr. When it comes to ortho dynamic hp's, the lyr is still my #1, but not for the 650.

Ever try the Mjolnir and 650? Woo wee.

Matt – Are you talking about the BHC with Speedball or without Speedball?  I even prefer the Valhalla over Lyr for the HD650.

With speedball. Have not heard stock yet.

I've tried HD650 + Mojo, I found it to be too analytical for me, as I like a more musical and lush presentation.

I just heard the Crack stock with the HD700, I remember the Crack had a very warm sound signature.

Love the combo. Its not too lush, and I was actually shaky on the combo at first. Its a little analytical, but I the combo sounds more realistic than before.

Welcome to team bottlehead Matt - glad you have joined us at long last! No doubt about it, crack is the budget amp to beat with hd650's. I'd take mine over anything shy of a mainline or Zana, which is really the level you have to go to improve on a speedball'd crack in a significant way.

Warm compared to solid state with a lot of global feedback perhaps, but crack isn't anywhere near as tubey and laid back as the woo otl's, for example, if you ever have a chance to compare. Coming from a woo, what surprised me most about my crack was how punchy, detailed and dynamic it was by comparison.

It is exciting and engaging to listen to in a way that other budget otl's are not.

WA7 is great with HD650 but based on my experience with HD700 Crack should be much better

Thanks Matt, that´s what I want but I saw the Yulong D100 MKII Amp/DAC and I thought that´s maybe a good idea, I want to build a desktop music station (portable is just done). So to speak I need a respetable DAC, two AMPs (solid state and tube) I like the idea of getting the BHC and get the tube option cover, but what is the best alternative for solid state?? And the DAC??

You should try Bifrost Uber or DacMagic Plus

Just checking in to say that after several years of novelty thrill experiences with various IEMs and cans, I am so delighted - in fact, ecstatic - to just enjoy music (and not headphones) again thanks to the HD650s. I still pick out details and impressive reproduction and so on but more in the sense of 'wow, I love this' than 'oh, check that out'. Despite the fact you can break it all down to science and precise measurements, there's a certain magic at play in the presentation. The only gimmick is 'everything sounds fantastic'.

Needless to say, this is through the stock BHC. I'll Speedball it one day but at the moment, and for the first period of time in several years, I want for nothing. I've even got over my HE500 wanderlust. If this is it until the grave, I couldn't ask for more.
