Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 950

I got mine for around $15 plus shipping from Sennheiser back in the day. (Bought the HD650 cable for my HD580. Definitely recommend it at that price for the HD580 or HD600.)

Ok... let's stay on topic ppl. Wrong thread to be bashing on balanced or arguing for it. Simply put... many here can simply express how nice HD650s perform on balanced setups... or amps/DACs that happen to be balanced. If you haven't tried them yourself... please do refrain from making such firm judgements and opinions. If you've tried them yourself, fine feel free to disagree... but please leave it as a personal impression or appreciation rather than sound science discussion. That is for another thread.

Cheers fellow HD 650 lovers! :beerchug:

I see what you did there...

I know that it's been stated before but probably needs updating. Where is the best, least expensive place for new pads?

Not sure if cheapest, but I bought mine recently for $42.80 at B&H Photo.

Yeah, I found them there also. After shipping you're right at $50. Seems like it's a little high but better than the other prices I've found.

Anyone know a good place to get an affordable 1m cable for my lovelies?

I find I can drive my 650s just fine out of the little old 10mW at 32 ohms analogue headphone output of my XA1-ES.

Finally, I got a chance to listen to some music by my HD650 that was driven by “Gungnir > Mjolnir > pure silver balanced cable”.  I found 20% improvement in SQ over my current rigs (Uberfrost > Lyr > stock cable).

Its all in your "subjective" head, it would sound exactly the same with regular copper cables plugged into a Magni/Modi

...that was a joke.  But yes that makes sense to me as the HE-400 are 35ohm cans so the Magni is better able to drive them vs the 300ohm HD650's.

I also have often been surprised by how little is required to run the HD650 my budget cmoy collection is fine as long as high volumes are not required.

On the other hand out of a quality amp with some power they are magnificent.

I guess it is one of the reasons they are still popular in the multi choice market we currently enjoy.

Yes, particularly if you want to crank it up and compensate for the lack of physical bass feel when listening to any headphone/IEM, more power definitely gives it an increase in impact, especially at the low end -- as well as, it seems, a little more definition there.  Depends on the music; I wouldn't need any of that listening to Monteverdi. :)

Copper, which HD650 version you have? i've heard that the latest HD650 versions are easier to drive, contrary to the early versions.
