Sennheiser HD650 Impressions Thread - Page 940

morning all

i have opened a new topic in help and raccomandation threads and i have a clear idea that i would to buy now...i want this fantastic headphone HD650!!! but I think that I will have some problems because I have a portable setup now: ipod classic 5.5g rockboxed + fiio e11 (i utilize this setup for akg q460).. so I would to know which solutions are the best to drive HD650..a portable setup or a desktop setup (i will listen music in my bedroom).. I have only ipod as source because i'm new in this world.. my budget is around 400/500 euro not much...

so can you help me? suggest me a desktop and a portable setup please.

ps: i read desktop solution schiit valhalla...or nuforce icon hdp...or violectric v100...but i don't know who is the best for me and my budget.

Thank of all and sorry for my english.

If you want to keep the budget low, consider:

1. Asgard 2 plus odac...this is a solid combo and the hd650 would sound very good on this setup, but this hp does "scale" quite well with better gear. You'll just have to decide how much to spend.

2. Next I'd upgrade the dac if you want to spend more. The bifrost is very good. Uber is an appreciable upgrade for $70 more over stock.

3. Lastly, the lyr will also improve on the A2. You'll get more warmth and punch. Mids will have better tone. Slight improvement in sound stage. Tube rolling allows you to change to signature but can get spendy.

As you can tell, I like the Schiit gear. You can also save money by buying used here on the forums. The Schiit components are build like tanks and are generally a safe buy used.

gL!!

Thx for your answer..but i don't understand something...vhalalla is not better then asgard2? And then why i need a dac(odac) with a desktop amp?maybe because i have an iPod as source? (If i buy a cd/sacd as source,i don't need dac..it's right?)
If i buy bifrost with uber upgrade,i have to choose with USB 2th gen input?or not?(for my ipod it's necessary USB input right?)
Thx and sorry for all question
Ps: i read all yours rewiev in schiit amp..and i like it too..i'll take one of them

Of course you can use an ipod or your pc as source. Just remember that the hd650 is a high end headphone that will continue to sound better with better equipment. It's up to you and your budget to decide just how good you want it to sound and how much to spend.

You can always start with a source that you have, ipod, and add something better later. That way you'll appreciate the difference more.

So i need a dac near my iPod and an amp to drive hd650? I must buy dac and amp? Not only amp..
I believed that it Was necessary only amp and i could connect iPod to amp directly..

No you don't need to buy the dac yet. The ipod can connect to whatever amp you buy and you'll be set. You can add a dac later.

+1. But note that if you get a DAC, you're really looking to make it a desktop setup. Feeding your iPod via aux into a DAC doesn't really make sense.

IMO, the Valhalla is a better amp than the Lyr or Asgard for the HD650.

I'm on the preorder list for the CEntrance HiFi-M8.  Its a DAC/Amp combo that works with iDevices in the native OS.  Two thing:  You would have to ditch Rockbox, which is easy with iTunes.  You might miss the interface.  Also we would need to make sure the 5.5G works with the device.

Several Head-Fiers already report great synergy with the HD650s, and power to spare.

I'm anxious to get mine...

IMHO, the Valhalla adds a bit treble energy to HD650.
