I do think that the hd650,s are picky with there amp sources. I love the hd650 but if I listen to it say thru the asus stx soundcard I get bored after a few minutes. Going with a tube amp like wa3 even the little dot mk3 I can listen for hours on end. Even an ss amp like the lehmann sounds great. Bass has nice impact and I don't find the treble fatiguing. With the stx however there is a slight veil and mids aren't as prominent. If I just tried the soundcard for example and hadn't tried different sources I probably would've sold the hd650 thinking it wasnt for me. However with different sources its my go to can for music that no matter what headphones I own I won't part with the 650's.

I agree the HD650s need juice; I can game just fine with them out of my Microstreamer, but when I listen to music, it's a bit underwhelming; when I use the line-out from the uS to my Asgard, though, everything becomes more punchy and dynamic and open. It's hard to really put a finger on exactly what it is that improves, but it just sounds way better o_O

Can anyone with a properly burned-in HD650 comment on how the sound has changed through the burn-in period? Was it is a dramatic difference?

I am still at ~50 hours, alas, but it sounds really lovely already.

I did hear an appreciable change in mine but it was after 200 hours more.

It's finally time I made an account. Regarding the HD650s, I know there are amps that would make the "sennheiser veil" disappear but are there any amps that can make the HD650 a fast headphone? Or at least a headphone that fares well with fast music?

Thanks

I just bought a Cavalli EHHA from a friend. It's a DIY amp from Cavalli and it's a hybrid. When I first plugged in my HD650, I was surprised how much the sound improved. It was fast and airy, two adjectives that people don't normally associate with HD650. Before I had my EHHA, I used centrance dacport, and with it the sennheisers sound slow and veiled. So to answer your question, yes there are amps that can improve Hd650's speed. But don't expect your amp to magically turn your HD650 into a stax, that's just not possible. By the way, I tried my EHHA with the Abyss and it could drive it with authority. :L3000:

I didn't hear much change in mine even after 500 hours.

Really? Mine really opened up after 5,000 hours of use. No longer veiled at all.

Between hour 8 and 9 I noticed a .6db boost at 28khz also. It was kind of fatiguing.

I was about to ask about your special hearing abilities, until I noticed the avatar.

With the tube amp everything just sounds right and I tried to work out what the difference was in the previous post to the best if my abilities. After listening to 10mins of music through the stx I get bored however with an external dac and amp I find I have to keep an eye on time so I don't stay up till 3am listening to the music lol

I'm not sure if you tried to imply anything with your post, but I bought my HD650 in early May and have been using it about 3 hours a day ever since.
